Glad I got all dolled up!

Only to come into the office where EVERYONE (well, those who made it in - more than HALF of our office didn't make it in!) but everyone else is in jeans and boots and sweatshirts! Chat Icon I thought: I didn't know that we could do that! I guess I never got the office memo that it is OK to dress down... So, I go to ask my boss and he goes "oh, no - we aren't allowed to dress down during snowy days - professional at all times" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I felt like saying "have you looked around?!" Chat Icon What the heck?!

Isn't that SO weird? But I mean, I can't say anything - he's my boss - I'm in hosiery (that keeps digging into my SIDE Chat Icon), a skirt, high heels and a blouse! I could have totally worn my UGGS and jeans! Chat Icon

oyyyyyyy - thanks for reading - gripe over Chat Icon the digging into my side - THAT will continue! Chat Icon Chat Icon

You SHOULD be glad you dressed professionally as was expected. It makes you stand out and shows a higher level of professionalism on your part. I bet the higher ups will take notice of that in a good way.

I'd never dream of dressing down because of the weather.

The SAME thing happened to me the last time it snowed! I don't understand why anyone would think you can dress down because of the weather -- if you can't dress appropriately, then don't come to work.

Re: Glad I got all dolled up!

I've been there!!

Normally Fridays are dress-down anyway so it wasn't an issue today. But I remember one time when it snowed and I came in dressed up only to see everyone else in jeans. "Oh yea, we're allowed to dress down when it snows".

Well gee wiz, thanks for letting me know!!!! Chat Icon

Fortunately I used to live really close, so I went home and changed!! Chat Icon

Re: Glad I got all dolled up!

until my office starts footing my cleaning bill, I will NOT wear "nice" clothes in this type of weather.

the snow/slush is BLACK on the streets. you kick that up all over your clothes.

jeans it is.

if my boss wants to get made at me for exercising common sense, what can I do?

luckily, they don't.

Re: Glad I got all dolled up!

i came in wiith my dress pants tucked into UGGs and changed my shoes.... but we do have our resident cuckoo that feels it's OK to come to work in a sweatsuit (as long as she's wearing heeled loafers with it... Chat Icon)

A few people in my office are wearing jeans but I dressed up as usual too. I don't mind and like Kara said your boss will notice.

I was very excited though that I finally got to wear my wellie boots. I changed into dress shoes in the office. I am so lame.Chat Icon

It depends on your office -- jeans wouldn't fly at mine, ever... unless it's Saturday. Chat Icon It's really nice that your office is understanding of the weather.

I've never really had problems with my clothes getting more than a little damp in this weather, though. I walked more than 1/2 a mile from my home to the train station this morning through unshoveled snow and another 15 blocks in the city in dress pants. My clothes are totally fine...

I have, though, gotten that ice melt stuff on me before and gotten white marks, that's awful, too!

I leave a suit in my office. If the weather were so bad that I had to wear something else, I'd change when I got to the office... b/c our dress code is pretty strictly enforced, we have clients in and out frequently.

BTW, this doesn't mean your boss doesn't notice when other people don't respect the rule. It just means that he isn't going to discuss other people's following (or not following) the rules with you. This is how a lot of bosses would handle it - He likely still takes notice. I know I do.

I mean, granted, he could be a total dud who doesn't notice... but chances are he does, which is good for you!! Chat Icon

my thoughts exactly. you should always dress for the job you want...not the job you have!

Yeah - you are exactly right!

And turns out he did notice because right before I left for the day he thanked me for being the ONLY one from my dept who came in - AND for doing so dressed professionally.

Yay! Chat Icon Hope that gets reflected in my bonus and/or raise Chat Icon
