I know plenty of people that age who know and love billy joel! Is she from the metropolitan area? I know that when I went to college, my roommate, who was from Buffalo, had kind of heard of him, but didn't really know any songs. She said that he wasn't as popular up there.

I was born in 1984 and know who Billy Joel is.
BUT... I do know people who are from another state who did NOT know who he was - no idea, never heard the music, never saw him before, etc. They live in the state of Washington and know cousins of mine... HOW in the world they have never heard of him is beyond me but I guess b/c they are from a rural area that is why? With the girl you are talking about - wow, just wow. How you can live on LI and not know him is unbelievable.
Also, even though I'm quite young I do listen to A LOT of older music - from way before I was born like Johnny Cash and things of that nature.

WHHAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTT????????????????? i am only 6 years older than her... and how in God's name do you not know who Billy Joel is... unless perhaps she was not born in the States?
Granted his best music, IMO are his albums from the 70s... but most of his top 40 stuff was so popular in the nineties....

Honestly, I think there are a lot of people who are just oblivious to a lot of things.
One of the girls who live in the dorm w/ me my freshman year didn't know who the Yankees were.
Who lives in the US for 18 years and never heard of the Yankees?
The same people who have never heard of Billy Joel at 25 ;)

OMG she sounds kinda numb, not young!
The other day there was someone on TV who looked like Re-Run from Whats Happening and I screamed "Re-Run" and my nephews (aged 15 and 13) did not even flinch, meanwhile the rest of my family laughed. I felt ollllllllldddd.

If you told me someone born in 1990 did not know Billy Joel I could believe it, but anyone born in the 80's should know Billy Joel since he had many hits in the late 80's and 90's, especially someone who lives on Long Island. If you live on LI and don't know who he is you should be deported off the island.

I was born in '80, definitely know who Billy Joel is!!! I got tix last weekend to his concert (aka the "second to last concert at Shea" .......so I'll be trying to get more tix on Saturday since we're in the nosebleed section w/ the ones we got last weekend! plus Friday is a much better day for a concert than the original Wednesday date.......good luck getting tix, my dialing finger STILL hurts
