Breasfeeding, pumping and going back to work.
Good afternoon mommies!! I have a question regarding pumping and going back to work. HOW DOES IT WORK?? I don't mean to sound naive... but I am. I will be at home for 2 months after my is born (around March 28). After that I plan to go back to work but want to pump so that my mom (who will be watching the baby) can bottle feed him/her breastmilk. My question is - when do you pump? I mean when I am at home I have to breastfeed... do I then pump what's left over? Or do you breastfeed, then bottlefeed formula (which I don't want to do) and pump? I am so confused. When do you find to pump and start freezing milk when you are actually breastfeeding? I am so overwhelmed. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!!!

Re: Breasfeeding, pumping and going back to work.
Here is a link to some helpful pumping and bottle feeding articles on kellymom.com.
  HTH with your questions.
When I was about to return to work, I pumped right after the feedings for about a week. I only had enough for one day's feeding at daycare, but it was enough to get started.
Then I pumped 3xs a day while at work: 10a, noon, 3pm. I have a good supply and end up pumping more than he eats and have built a substantial freezer supply based on that.

Thank you so very much!!! I don't know why, but I am so intimidated by this breastfeeding/pumping thing.

Re: Breasfeeding, pumping and going back to work.
When I returned to work I would pump during my breaks. At 10:30, during lunch at 2 and my last pumping session was at about 4pm. I bought a small portable fridge I plugged to an outlet and stored the milk there.I would immediately breastfeed baby when I got to my moms house and also breastfed him before leaving to work.I breast fed DS exclusively breats milk for 8 months. The key is to try to empty out breast every 2 hours if you can to maintain milk supply.
