What constitutes being abnormally short?

...for a man without being considered a "little person"??

Everyone in my office debates this b/c we see him every single day...

There is a man in my office building who CANNOT be more than five feet tall. I would guesstimate that he is 4'10''. Thoughts? This doesn't make him a larger version of a "little person", does it? I know this is a weird question but it is a constant topic in my office with people going back and fourth over it.

I think under 4' for a man or woman makes them technically a little person.

Re: What constitutes being abnormally short?

IMO it's easy to determine a short person from someone who is a "little person"

I worked for a CPA once that was shorter than me (I'm only 5'0") and he was just short, not a little person

exactly! that is what i keep telling people - i feel like i can tell the difference and he just looks like a person who is just short - NOT a little person but other people in my office argue with me and say that he *HAS* to be a little person. Chat Icon

Re: What constitutes being abnormally short?

I've read some things that say that it's 4'10". I think that's pretty tall though for dwarfism. I guess there are lots of varieties.

It's up to 5'0" tall, but there are other characteristics that determine dwarfisim.

Re: What constitutes being abnormally short?

im 4'11" and am not a dwarf, so id have to say 4'10" isnt either.

there is more to being a "little person" than just height" - normally there is a misproportion somewhere.

i worked with a guy who was probably 4"10" and he was just short.

my SIL is also 4'11'' - i don't think that is abnormal b/c you are a woman. i'm saying this b/c he is a man and i'm wondering what, for a man, means dwarfism and if the standards are different for men and women b/c I think they are but I don't know for sure.

Re: What constitutes being abnormally short?

Being a little person, or dwarf, is not just determined by height alone. They are also characterized by misproportioned body parts, for example they could have short legs but the torso of an average height person.
