Ponder this....
Is it right to take a post that was started with a serious question and respond with sarcasm or unrelated answers just because you don't like or don't agree with the OP? Making it difficult for the poster to get real answers?
This question stems from watching the thread from late last night (for those of you who saw it)... and then seeing other posts from the OP and the direction they went in.
I am just looking for people's opinions on whether or not you thought it was right.

Re: Ponder this....
I didn't get it at all. I didn't find anything wrong with what she was asking, unless I had missed something in a previous post. I thought it was horrible that she barely got real answers when she was just asking advice, which is what I thought these boards were all about. I am "new" here too like her and now it makes me afraid to post!!

No, I don't think it's right. She was asking a legitimate question and was entitled to legitimate answers.

Re: Ponder this....
No...but just as in the real world, in cyber world, there are secret jokes and cliques and stuff like that that often gets misinterpreted due to the lack of tone and facial expressions, etc. And if we are talking about a specific poster, she just has to ignore it and roll with the punches.
I think we often forget that in a way, while this is a little community of friends who for the most part have never met one another, it is also a valuable reference point, too. Sometimes you have to put your feelings about a poster aside and just answer the question. They may not be the only person pondering it, you know?

No. It is downright rude. If you feel that strongly about a poster, just don't respond to their posts.

Re: Ponder this....
It is rude, but in that case, was there a serious question? I just saw someone who was angry that her manager found out she was complaining on a public forum about her job. She wanted to find out who told her manager. But in her original thread she said the specific location, which day she was working, and there is a picture of her. It could have been any of the thousands of people who are on LIF at any given moment. It could have been someone who has never seen the site before that thread. I know I forwarded the link to someone I know in the industry and we laughed about how immature the whole thing was.
You never know who is reading what is written here. If you are saying something that you don't want people who know you IRL to find out about, don't post it on a public forum.

Re: Ponder this....
I think she is referring to the responses on the pet-friendly apartment thread and when she asked where people get tattoos.

It is not right. I try to keep my mouth shut if I don't necessarily agree with anything. I learned that a few years back when I got flamed!

Re: Ponder this....
I don't think it is right, but the original, ORIGINAL post, was a vent. Not looking for advice, just a vent.
IMO, unless she asked - what could I have done differently, or What do you think, WWYD, etc - she wasn't elliciting advice. She was looking for a "Right on Sista" or "You go girl."
some people did commiserate and gave sympathy. Some people gave advice - like me - that it is important to take these experiences and grow from them, and yes, some people got silly....
But heres the thing - when you post on LIF, you have to be prepared to get all of that - you need to get a sifter and sift out the stuff you want, and let the other stuff roll off your back, plain and simple.

That would be fine if people would keep it within the orginal post, but yet many posters choose to carry it into other threads which have no relevance. (This is in general, not about any specific poster(s).)

I agree. Just ignore the posts by posters you prefer not to communicate with. Not every thread should have previous crap dragged into it, not at all.

Not about this. About her asking about a pet friendly apt, which is now on home board.
