Do you call wrong numbers back?

If someone leaves a message that is clearly NOT for you, but they leave a call back number - do you call them to let them know they made a mistake?

But I'll call back if I don't know the number and they don't leave a vm.

We have had several messages left on our machine about some guy owing money so i called them back & explained that they apparantly have the wrong number bc we are the only ones that have lived in this house for the past 3 years....

I do if it's something like a doctor's office confirming an appt or someone trying to reach a doctor or whatever.

I don't call back the random wrong numbers where people are just trying to catch up with each other.

I did it once b/c the SAME person was calling OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Our freakin' names are on our answering machine -- hello?! After a month you'd think this person would figure it out. You'd REALLY think they'd figure it out after I answered one day and told them they had the wrong number. Nope. Twice after that, they called in the middle of the night. The second time, I missed the phone and called them right back. I told them if they called here one more time, I'd report it as harassment.

I once had this crazy old lady keep calling looking for her friend Frida. The message consisted of her screaming "Frida, Frida, are you there?". I finally changed my answering machine to say if that there is no Frida here and never has been. She finally got the message and stopped calling.

I get texted messages from a guy writing in spanish to my cell phone all the time. I texted him back several times saying wrong #, then i couldnt take it anymore and started cursing at him and he threatened me .. and is still continuing to text me in spanish. I called my phone carrier and they said in order to fix the problem i would have extend my contract, or cancel it.. either way costs me $$$

no - but if i am home i will answer the phone. DH and i got a new phone # a few months ago and we get a lot of calls from people looking for the old "owners" of the phone #, so we just tell them they have the wrong #.

Depends. I one received a message that seemed important about the time of test being changed so I called back the number and told them they had called the wrong number. If it is a message that just says hi - i ignore it.

This has actually recently become a problem with people leaving someone else messages for me. Since I recently moved to Albany, my cell phone area code is still 516 and not 518 yet everyone calls me without dialing 516

If it's the same number over and over yes.

Right now our new phone number must have belonged to someone who owed money and we keep getting a recording from some collection agency. It's so annoying because its an unlisted number and we can't call back.

Usually, no... but it really depends on the message. Someone left a message on our machine about a family member that had passed away, so I called them back to let them know they had the wrong phone number.

It boggles my mind because our machine says our names on it, but yet people still leave messages for other random people.

I still get area code change mixups. It's really annoying. I get 3 or so calls a month for my '516' counterpart. I used to just hang up - but lately I started telling the people that call for him to please tell him to make sure to give people the area code, I'm getting 4 calls a month for him.

No... I never call back numbers I dont know and I'll only return a msg not meant for me if it sounds important...when we first moved to our apt there was a person consistantly trying to get in touch with the previous tennent and after 3 calls, we called her back and let her know the other tennent left.

There was once a man that called every day looking for a reverend, I called him back explaining he must have the wrong number, but he kept calling and leaving more messages/

Once I actuallytracked down a man who had a message left for him on my cell- it was about a job interview. I looked him up in the book and recalled the messgae details on his machine.
I felt like the best citizen ever after that.

I need to call Sachem School District and WIC, because we are on their automated phone call list.

No, if they listened to our outgoing message then they should already know it was a wrong number and they shouldn't have left a message in the first place. I'm not going to take time out of my day to make up for their ignorance.
