Do you get a raise every yr?
- do you expect it? - If you dont, are you compensated in any way.
In a position where I dont, and honestly I feel I cant go on like this anymore.
I enjoy what I do and work for an amazing boss who is understanding esp about my DD. I dont take unneccesary time and make my goals.
I need to make a decision but scared at the the same time.
ETA: I have been here 5 yrs. Havent had one in 3 yrs
I also make commission but those #'s havent increased either and I have kept that steady as well. Lets just say without that..Its pretty bad.
Just real confused but cant keep this up.

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
At my company we are supposed to get a "merit increase" every year. (believe me, it's not much)
Unfortunately, this year they decided that they were not giving merit increases at all because of the way the company has been performing. It stinks.

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
Yes, but I am in a union so it's in our contract. We usually get about 3% every year. I would be very annoyed if I didn't get a raise!! Can you ask your boss about it?

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
Not much - not based on merit. They are based on cost of living and endowments/grants.

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
With the cost of living increasing around 3% every year (give or take), I consider a raise almost mandatory. If you don't get a raise, you are technically getting less money than the previous year.
That's what bothers me about people on a "fixed income". People on Social Security are the only people in the country GUARANTEED by law to get raises every year. Nobody else is guaranteed a raise.

14.3% increase in 1980! Put me on THAT "fixed income"!

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
we get a yearly cost of living/inflation adjustment...a very low percentage.
we get step and grade increases in staggered yearly increments (that's the best way to explain it)
I work for the govt, so we don't make the best $$ to begin with.

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
No. But in the past we would received quarterly bonuses if everyone met their numbers. Unfortunately last year wasn't a good year. However, they are very flexible with my hours which I need because of DH. SO I can't really complain.

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
I get a review every year, and a raise which varies based on your performance which usually ranges from 5-8%.
You need to stand up and ask for one! I am reading Suzy Orman's book "Women & Money" and one of things she talks about is that you need to stand up for yourself..."You are NOT for sale" LOL...if you feel that you've worked very hard and deserve a raise, then you should ask to meet with her/him regarding your compensation, hand her/him a short list (of about a page) of all of your accomplishments throughout the time that you haven't gotten a raise, and talk to her/him about it. And make sure you get what you are asking for! I understand that you have bills to pay for etc., so if it doesn't work out, look for something else. Don't let them place you on a backburner either! FM me Deb if you need any other "Suzy Orman Advice"!

I would love to get a 14.3% raise. I think that's extremely good by anyone's standards....

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
We get a yearly review and the score from your review determines if/what kind of raise you get.
We also get a bonus at Christmas time every year.

that will never happen again. That was an adjustment made since decades went by with no adjustment.
People living on fixed incomes through ss don't get enough to live on. No matter how much their cost of living increases are yearly, I would not trade places with them.

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
to answer the question.
Yes, usually about 5-6% and a small yearly bonus.
I am overtime eligible and in our firm that means my bonuses are small.

It may be a nice "number" but considering what most people receive on SS it doesn't come close to being able to live on it. It's a shame.

Yes, a 14.3% raise would be awesome -- if it were on your current salary. SS is NOT enough to live on. It wouldn't be enough to live on even with a 14.3% raise...
Trust me, you don't want to be living off of SS as your only source of income.
I honestly thought you were joking at first... but if you really think it's that great, please do some more research!

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
I get a 3% cost of living raise every year. This is the first year that I've received a merit raise after being with the same hospital for nearly 7 years but only with this position for 3 years. My total raise this year was 10%.
Sounds like you should def ask for a raise.

Re: Do you get a raise every yr?
I do get raise, based on performance and cost of living.
I would sit down with your boss and express your concerns. They may not realize that they haven't been giving you one. Unless you address it the situation proly won't change. After that if they refuse to work with you then you can consider alternatives.
