Naked babies (Random question bothering me)

OK...long story short:

SIL came to visit last weekend with her 8 month old DD (my niece).

We changed Johnny and he wriggled away as usual..we let him run around the living room without his diaper on..he LOVES being naked, like a lot of babies do.

SIL kind of freaked...she walked away with her daughter and was shielding her DD's eyes. I thought she was making a joke of it..

She goes "Mia, don't look...you can't see a pee pee".

I go "Are you serious? They are both babies, they don't know anything".

She goes "I seriously don't want her looking at him, its one thing if its a brother or sister but this is her MALE cousin".

She was really kinda upset/offended. I just put a diaper on him and went about business. I just keep thinking about it though, I could care less if Johnny sees another babies "parts". And she's 8 MONTHS!! She doesn't know where to look or what she's even looking at!

Am in alone in this??

She way overreacted. I hope she doesn't give her daughter some complex!

Re: Naked babies (Random question bothering me)

My kids LOVE being naked. I would never want them to be ashamed of their bodies or that there is anything wrong with it.

I mean I do respect her and would never purposely offend someone...I just found myself thinking "geez, get a grip". I am so not offended by most things though...

She is a prude! Does she have issues with her own body?

I think it is wierd that she freaked out. I mean an 8 month old does not even know what they are looking at. I could see if they were 8 years old.
My DS loves to be naked too. I try not to let him though because he also loves to watch himself pee on the floor. Chat Icon

She is being totally ridiculous!!!!! The only thing I would be afraid of is your DS peeing! Seeing him naked, not an issue.

I agree!

Well..she won't stop talking about how fat her belly is...and I don't see anything there, she is back to her pre-preggo weight and she tries to be healthy and works out but nothing extreme.

She really and truly like freaked. Prob didn't help that my DH was going "Johnny, show Mia your bits!". Lol. We were all laughing and she was getting more and more agitated. It was weird.

He peed on our TV a few months ago, lol! But he hasn't done that in forever. We let him run for maybe 3 minutes before putting a diaper on.

Well if DS and Mia were 13, sure this would be not so good. But they are so little! She's being puritanical, I think.

Re: Naked babies (Random question bothering me)

Personally, I don't like to see other people's naked kids running around, it makes me uncomfortable and i know my DH feels the same.

Does that make me weird? Or a Puritan?

No i don't think so, it just makes some people uncomfy.

We didn't even take any naked pics of my girls and i dont' plan on it EVER. Nor do i let my girls run around naked, especially if there are people here.

But i do think the way she reacted with her DD was a little over the top.

ETA: I'm not prude and nor i am i uncomfy with body parts nor will my dd's ever use nicknames for them nor i am uncomfy with my own body.

To each their own..if that's how she feels so be it...

But personally I think that making the big deal that she did drew more attention for her DD than otherwise would have been. I agree with Racheeeee - seems kinda prude.
