It all depends on how complicated your taxes are---if you have to itemize. usually they charge by form.
anywhere from $100-400 usually.

I would avoid them. I have heard quite a few horror stories.
They hire extra help during tax time, and its very likely that the person doing your taxes is rather inexperienced, and maybe not even a licensed CPA.
If they want to charge you more than $200, I would take your business to an actual CPA that has his own business. I am sure people here can give referrals if you need them.

Whenever I've used them, I was always happy with their work. I never had a problem with them.
ETS: We were charged a little more than $200 this year.

I paid $400 for a horrendous experience - I was telling the non-qualified person who they recently hired how to do my taxes. I pay $175 to a very qualified CPA. I'd definitely recommend not using them.

Same here. But our taxes are pretty straightforward, and we have gone to the same woman a few years in a row.

BTW, it doesn't take a CPA to prepare your taxes properly...there ARE CPA's who have passed the exam but rarely prepare taxes...just like there are tax preparers out there w/out a CPA license who can do a great job.
I'm not advocating either/or, I'm just sayin', don't assume that b/c somebody has a license, they are MORE qualified.
Then again, you also don't want somebody who just took a tax prep course to be doing your taxes if your situation is more complicated than a few W-2's and some 1099's

i use to go to a private accountant, i switched to H&R blck 4 years ago, I use the same man every year, & never a problem, My taxes usually run $100- & they let you pay for it thru your return

This is so true- my sister just passed her CPA exam and cant even do her own taxes. She works in audit and her college focused largely on businesses.

I did TurboTax basic for federal and state. Cost me $30!
But I have previously gone to accts.
