I wouldn't have needed a spinal. I'm talking no drugs, naturally. I'm sure a baby his size would hurt, but I can recover from that! 
Yeah but a baby his size might not necessarily fit through your birth canal so you might not have that option. If you do have another baby and he/she turns out as large as your first general anesthesia for a c/section would probably be another option given to you. Although not the best option it might be the safest option for you and future children.
