I don't understand my stepmother...

She has been in my life since I was 9, and she has always been very weird - not very nurturing, and just wanting things to be the way she wants them...

Last night she calls me on her cell phone while driving to tell me how hard it is for her to drive. I was about to tell her about my scare, and she said she didn't want to hear it because it would get her nervous...

She calls me today, and never asked what happened. She goes on to tell me how terrible yesterday was, and I told her what happened.

She made no comment. Not - glad you guys are ok, thank god, nothing...

Then she just tells me to have a good weekend (she is going away tomorrow) and she'll talk to me later...

I just don't understand people. I am amazed at how nurturing a mother I am able to be with a schizophrenic biological mother and then this as my stepmother....Chat Icon

Sorry, I'm just venting... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Someone very close to me is just like you. Bipolar mother, self absorbed step mother. She's only in high school... but you can see how nuturing she is with her brother's and sister's - Even my kids. Kind of ironic - the way the world works.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I know how that goes too. I have a family member just like that. Chat Icon It's upsetting, frustrating yet shocking that someone can care so little for another "loved" one.

She is just a very selfish women. I am sorry that she has not been able to see how blessed she is to have you as a daughter. She seems to just want everything to be about her.

My mother isn't very nuturing or caring either- and as much as I adore and love her, I can see this same exact conversation happening between her and I. My whole life she has been this way- and always had no sympathy for us when we were sick or going thru a rough time or anything like that. I thought maybe it would change when DD was born, but it hasn't. And whats even weirder is that her mother is the same way- and my mom complains about the way her mother is!!

I completely understand!

I agree. My dad is the most negaitive person I know. As a result, I try to see everything (well, most things) in a positive light.

I would start letting her calls go to voicemail. You don't need her selfishness and I'm sure you don't have the time to listen to her go on about herself. Chat Icon

I usually do.

she and my stepsister are the same way. and I know they have resented me even more since having a baby.

i think they wanted to see me fail as a mother, and don't like to hear when people say how cute he is, how good he is, and my stepsister scowled at me the entire time at my dad's company Xmas party when everyone told me how terrific I looked, how I lost all my baby weight (which I didn't Chat Icon ) so thats just the way they are...

Its hard when all you want to do is share the love and the joy of having this amazing child with other people who should also love and adore him, and it doesn't happen... Chat Icon

It's sad that they live what sounds like miserable lives. Chat Icon It's awful that they cannot be happy for you and see how wonderful Cailen is. They are missing out on such happy times and it's too bad they won't be more involved with a great mom and a terrific little boy. But, you have the best "revenge:" living that happy, wonderful life without much involvement from their negativity. Chat Icon

The best revenge is living well....

I just wish it didn't have to feel like I was in a war zone in my own family.

I don't need revenge or show up anyone...

I'm not expecting the Brady Bunch, but I wish we could be a family, KWIM? Some dysfunction, but at the end of the day, theres a lot of love there - but I know there isn't... my whole life its been so hard, and I guess I'm expecting some magic wand to come out just because I had a baby - I guess its my fault for expecting them to be different when really, they have been pretty consistent my whole life...
