police auctions
Does anyone have any idea how you find out about the police auctions? We need to get a second car and I thought this might be a good route. Has anyone done this before?

Re: police auctions
It depends. It can be hit or miss, and you have to get the info to make sure that you can inspect the car ahead of time, because the cars are sold *as is.* If you have a mechanic you trust it might be worth it to pay them to come to the auction to check the cars you might be interested in bidding on.
If there is no one else in the room looking for the same thing as you, then you can do quite well, but if it is something in demand then you can pay as much as sticker for it. Also, some require you to pay cash, so make certain to check all the rules before hand.
A few people I know go to auctions, one guy got a $120K Porsche 911 Carrera for $20K, but a lot of them get everyday cars and trucks for only a few thousand dollars off blue book value.
