Laptops - PC or Apple?

I want one. A laptop

Never had a Mac or worked with one.

But PC laptops are cheaper esp since I dont want to spend too much on one.

I also hear MAC has some great stuff for graphics design etc..sometime easier to work with.

Trying to seek both options.

TIA!

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

I have a mac laptop and a pc desktop. I use linux, so the mac is really nice for me. I also have a program called Parallels that allows me to run windows on the mac, for all my windows programs. Personally, I'll never get another non-mac laptop.

Plus if you get the new one, it's thin enough to fit in a manilla envelope. Chat Icon

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

I used to be anti-Mac since I always worked on PCs...even though I knew how to work on both.

now at work, I have an iMac and they also provided me with an iBook laptop for home. I'm starting to think once my desktop Dell wears out its welcome I'll replace it with a Mac. I feel they're just better performing all around - I've never had any spyware or any of that junk, plus they just seem to operate faster.

Unless it's me...Chat Icon

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

I searched around a lot...got lots of opinions. My BIL is Mac obsessed. Everyone including his sons under 10 both share a Mac....

For me it totally came down to price & for what I needed it for...a Mac was completely unnecessary for me. I went with a PC - & I'm in love.

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

I am a mac addict as well as my DH. He has a G5 I have a power book.

Be careful about the new mac, i think it is called an air, because it is really meant to be a commuter computer, as in going from your computer at work to your desk top at home. It is much slower and does not have as much memory as the other mac lap tops.

If you have more questions FM me. DH is a mac genius (not the ones that work at the store, but he is literally a mac genius)

I will never go back to PC.

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

I just checked and much of the software I use for work is not Mac compatible. If that changes, I would want to give Mac a try.

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

anti-mac here..... sorry

I have to do some fairly sophistocated graphics and analysis at work, and most programs are designed for PC's, and awkwardly translated into Mac.... and the virtual PC in mac's are not good enough to run these programs

It's a PC world out there. you want to do a PPT presentation at a random conference center, especially if its overseas, you better have a PC, or else there will be giant red X's where the graphics should be

Macs are fine if your using it soley for personal use, or you are in the unique situation where your entire office is Mac.... otherwise....

I love love love my sony vaio. I highly recommend them Chat Icon

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

I've got a mac powerbook for work and I love it. Definitely don't have as many problems as you do with a PC. I will definitely buy a Mac when I replace my desktop.

Yes, I think PC are more common, but it depends on your industry. I'm in advertising, specifically interactive and everyone uses Macs. They seem to be the preference for most Designers. When I need to present to the client, I use PPT ( I haven't really used Keynote). I have Microsoft Office and it actually runs pretty well on a Mac. When we do testing for sites we build, a few people have run a parllel (I thinks that's what it's called) to allow them to run a Windows Operating system.

Mac!

Once you go Mac you never go back.

The only issue I've had with my Mac is that some of my business' proprietary programs don't work on Mac, but I bought it originally for school and personal use. It's great for personal use like photos, music, etc. NO viruses, not problems. WOO

Re: Laptops - PC or Apple?

die hard PC'er again...

I feel compelled to add.....
All the 'problems' that Mac people think PC people have is due to people running their computers on open servers w/o antivirus /antispyware.
Install symantic and zone alarm, and there are absolutely no issues what so ever. I never understood why people say PC people have 'problems' Chat Icon

At work, Macs are forced to run demanding software, sometimes on their 'virtual PC', since these programs often are not available in Mac versions. Becuase of the demanding environment, the Macs have a much higher repair/replacement rate (lasting on the average of 2 years or less). PC's, as long as they have their fans vacuumed once in a while and their antispyware running, usually last until they are antiquated.... 4+ years....

In summary, there's a trade-off.... you either become accustomed to having some anti-virus/anti-spyware programs (really not a big deal IMO), or you accept the inconvenience of having a good portion of software/hardware be incompatible or awkwardly running....

hope this helps

i agree... the majority of people don't know how to take care of there pc. out of these people... alot don't know how to surf the web. once you hit one bad bug on your computer, it could go down hill.. i contribute alot of issues due to limewire and other peer to peer programs where you have a great chance of getting stuff..

i love mac but not everything is standard for a MAC depending on your use. for most, yes, you can do pictures, email, music on it but thats it. you will be limited to what you can hook up to it, make sure it works etc...
