Re: Hypothetical question
I'd have to be honest. No point in putting my job on the line too. I know that's not really nice.

Re: Hypothetical question
This is the one situation where being a sellout is okay. Think of the lil cutie with the mohawk, she needs more pink Puma sweatsuits. When it comes down to it, you have to look out for yourself and your family.

Re: Hypothetical question
I think in this case IMO honesty really is the best policy. If your co-worker is really doing s/t against company policy he's the one getting himself into a pickle, not you.

Re: Hypothetical question
If I was being asked directly from a superior, I would answer honestly. I wouldn't want my lie to come back and bite ME in the a$$ later.

Re: Hypothetical question
I would be honest.
It's not my fault a coworker is violating company policy. Why should I lie and risk my job to save someone who (1) is lying or cheating by violating company policy and (2) will likely get in trouble anyway since clearly the company is already onto them.

How is telling the truth selling out?
The other person chose to violate the policy. You signed up to work for this company, not to protect someone else from trouble they got themselves into...

1) I am not a liar on the regular
2) helping my coworker isn't putting food on my table
3) you play, you pay
all these add up to...I would sing like a nightingale.

Re: Hypothetical question
Are you friends with the co-worker (do you socialize outside of work)? If not, I would have no hesitation in telling the truth. I would especially feel more comfortable knowing that the co-worker is not in office due to suspension and I wouldnt have to see them. The question you have to ask yourself is whether the co-worker is work losing your job over. Is this co-worker worth making a stand for? I would answer the investigator's questions directly without offering any unnecessary pieces of information.

The slang of defintion of sellout is:
2. Slang To betray one's colleagues: He sold out to the other side.
