Which gets more media coverage tomorrow?

The Giants victory parade? or the Super Tuesday rallies in NJ and Connecticut.

Which event gets more of a turnout?

It's ironic that the rallies are at Giants Stadium - you KNOW some spillover from the parade is going to end up at the rallies Chat Icon

yeah, they're not my bag either.

But, this is a big election year and alot of people, especially NY, are screaming for change, with threats of a recession and alot of other things.

I just think it will be interesting if this takes a back seat to sports

I don't know why they can't schedule the parade for Wednesday. I wonder how many people are not going to vote because they are going to be away from their voting area....

exactly - one should be moved, so that it can be given the proper attention.

I'm not saying the Giant parade is a huge win for the city and a huge event worthy of a parade.

But, in the end, it's only a game.

I'm no political maven, but this is a big year, and the results of this election will have long-term effects on the nation.

You make the call as to what's more important.

Polls in our area are open from 6am until 9pm. I doubt anyone will be at Giants stadium from 6am until 9pm.

I also doubt that many people who were planning on voting will actually opt not to vote just due to the parade...

I don't see the two as being mutually exclusive. Let's be honest, it might be a big election year, but voter turnout is notoriously poor whether or not the Giants are having a Superbowl victory parade. We can't blame the parade.

Isn't the parade usually in the morning or early afternoon? It's not like it's gonna take up the whole day, where if someone was planning to go vote, they wouldn't be able to. Anyway, voting only takes a few minutes and you're done.

I think the parade is 1-4.

That's still plenty of time to go vote.

I think if the candidates are smart they will have people out all over the Giants parties and parade and be handing out information and directions to polling places.

The way I see it...

If the parade is 1-4, that means that people on LI will start commuting to the parade at 10AM? Because you know they need to stop and get lunch before the parade starts.

They won't go to vote before the parade, because they don't want to get up early on a day they took off from work, because they can do it 'later'.

They drink all thru the parade - the parade ends at 4, have some dinner and more drinks, commute back drunk, and say "forget it, it's not worth it, I'm tired and need to sleep this off because I have work tomorrow. Plus, its 6PM and the election is probably already decided by now."

Will this be the case for all parade goers? No. But I think this will happen in more than a few cases. When it easily could have been avoided by not choosing to do this on a primary day. I just think it's bad scheduling effort....

ETA: I also agree that it's not an excuse. People should make the time to vote, and the political teams can't say that candidate A didnt win because all of 'their' voters were at the parade. That is just making excuses.

Also, I've never voted in a primary before so maybe I am wrong - but don't you need to vote at your 'home' polling place? I didn't think you could just walk up to any polling place and vote.

the parade is on teusday because some of the players leave for the pro bowl on wednesday and monday is too soon = next week is too late

so same day - the people who want to vote will vote - the parade won't really affect that - the primaries usally have less voters anyway then the actual election
