We had a VERY scary experience today...
We are staying out east at my in-laws in East Hampton. They live right off of Montauk Hwy (Rt27). Well, my SIL opened the front door to come in and Casey ran right out.....and straight to 27. As soon as I heard I raced out there. Now this was like around 530, so it was dusk. Luckily I had sneakers on. Also luckily Casey was wearing her red sweatshirt. I try to play the whole playful game to get her to come to me. Then I panicked and ran after her which made her run further away. I never felt so sick in my life. My DH came out after us wearing only his jeans and t-shirt. Thank God he had on a bright white t-shirt so he was visible. She ran across the hwy, into someone's yard and back out again. I know it was foolish of me but all I could think of was getting her and I wasn't even thinking of myself when I was running in the road. My DH was holding up traffic and some idiot is yelling at him to "just put a leash on the dog" (like we let her out running free intentionally   ) and he starts getting into an argument with the guy - I thought the guy was going to get out of his car...I told my DH now is NOT the time for that...!!!! I kept thinking she has one more minute before I see her get hit  FINALLY she ran back towards the house and my SIL was able to grab her by the sweatshirt and we got her back into the house. I keep seeing visions of her in the road and keep thinking how close we were to losing her  Thank God we got her back. I don't know how to teach her to stay near me. Luckily at home we have a fenced in yard.
So scary...I still feel sick over it! She's our baby.

awwww poor casey. someone got curious! glad she is home and safe and unharmed. id freak out too if i were you.

Thanks guys....I still keep seeing it in my head 
And you know what my FIL said? "I keep seeing flashes of Casey in the road along with Tommy (my DH) and I didn't want either of them to get killed". And my SIL says, what about Jen - she was the first one to run out there? He says, "Well I care about Tommy more, of course"   I mean, of course he does, that's his son - but hello, I was sitting 5 feet away!!!

Glad she's ok. Chewie has ran out a few times and made me freak out but the minute I offer him a treat, he runs back in.

I worry about that happening to Bama all the time. Everytime someone comes to the door, he tries to run out when I open the door (I think he's just trying to get to the person to sniff them, but you never know...)
We definitely need to do some more obedience training with him, because he won't come when we call him unless we have a treat! 
Glad that Casey is ok!

Jen- that is so scary!
I'm so glad Casey is okay!
We have that problem with our new dog Tally! We have to be really careful with her- it's scary!
Thank goodness she's okay!
