my poor grandmom :-(
my grandmom had a stroke about a year and a half ago. she ended up in a nursing home for awhile, but got "kicked out" because she was having behavior control problems and stealing other people's food ( including slappnig the nurse when she tried to stop her ).
SO- my dad and his brothers redid her bathroom to make it handcapped accessible for her, and got her a full time, live- in health aid. the aid is through an agency, so they switch periodically. they've all been pretty good so far, and my parents and uncles are always in there checking up on things.
BUT- my mom just e-mailed me that this latest aid is not working out. She apparently has 6 kids, and didn't raise any of them herself ( so how that qualifies her to be a caregiver, who knows?!) apparently she called my parents house in the middle of the night last week because my grandmom was screaming for help. so my dad and one of my uncles both went over there- the aid had my grandmom asleep in just a shirt and an adult diaper thing!!!   in the middle of the winter!!! grandma can't quite get the words together to tell the aid exactly whats wrong, so thats why she was screaming for help. mom said as soon as dad helped the aid put some pants on her, grandmom was perfectly fine!
and mom said that since this aid has been there, grandmom has hardly been eating anything, because shes not happy at all 
they are working with the agency now to get a new aid in there... but its just soo crazy!!! if you don't want to take care of people, then why become a caregiver?!

Yeah tell me about it. Before my fil passed away his aide (who was only about 21) sat on the couch and played his psp the whole time, but my fil liked him so he didnt want to complain. The day he passed away, my fil clearly needed help and the aide didn't know what to do. so he got up to get my sil's and then called the agency to see if they knew what to do. My fil ended up passing away in my sil arms. literally. How can they "train" someone, and certify them to be a HHA, and he didn't know what to do.
