WWYD???

What would you do?

We live in a house that is attached on one side (Queens).

The kids in there (I assume its the kids), literally sound like they are going to come through the wall. They already made a big crack in the wall in the living room and now the kitchen wall sounds like its gonna fall in!! I have NO IDEA what they could be doing...banging and jumping, its insane!!!!!!!! I cant imagine ever being allowed to behave that way.

I am on the verge of knocking on their door...and trying to take the nice approach..like is everything ok in there? We were worried because we heard tons of banging. The dh says no, it will cause bad relations with people we have never had problems with before.

I understand his pov, BUT I cannot let this go on. They are ruining the house and I have a huge shelf on the wall in the living room and I am deathly afraid one day its just gonna come crashing down! WWYD??

I would call the landlord & tell them there is a crack in the wall from the tenants on the other side & let him handle it.

Last thing you need is to be blamed for damage that they did.

I definitely would take the "everyhing ok?" approach one day. Makes you seem concerned and would hopefully make them realize they are disruptive!

Thats why I am so concerned with the damage too. This is a family house. And its ridiculous that this behavior goes on next door.

Then make the call. The fact is they've already caused damage. As the landlord, I would want to know about it.

Than absolutely go over there. No call needed. They are disruptive, and damaging. Who knows what damage they are doing over on their side (sheetrock, plaster, etc.)? I know my mom would want me to say something.

ITA.... U have a responsibility to your mom's investment to find out what is going on. Fact in point, damage has already been caused. You will be doing something preemptive against further damage.

Re: WWYD???

I've been in similar situations. I would just address them nicely. They may not even have a clue how loud they are.

When I lived in Queens, I had new tenants move in above me that kept opposite hours. They were chefs so came home at like 2 or 3 AM every day.

It was just a matter of having them put down rugs in their apartment.

Re: WWYD???

I would wait until things were going batty agaon and then pop by next door with the "Is everything ok?" approach.

I assume they don't know about the previous crack. I would mention that in the conversation. This isn't going to stop if they don't know that they are causing damage and frustration.
