THey will not give the rest of the informationChat Icon Chat Icon they say its a PRIVACY issue. Isn't it OUR privacy that has been invaded?? W T F. The only way we can know who did this is if we call the police and file a report, Paypal can tell a policeman but not us. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Re: Paypal Identity Theft Update #3

that stinks!

but you should go ahead and follow thru and make sure you file that report---its the best way to prove that you are being dilligent in protecting your privacy. (in case this person tries to steal your identity with another card or account)

sorry you guys have to deal with this!

Re: Paypal Identity Theft Update #3

gotta ask, what would be the benefit of knowing who stole from you, especially in the cyber age, its probably somebody you don't know. At least everything seems to be taken care of and shouldn't happen again.

I don't see how this is a problem. I'd file the report.

PayPal could very well be protecting YOUR privacy by doing this. What if it were another individual calling, who also had your DH's personal information, and was using it illegally?

File the report (which needs to be done anyway since what happened is a CRIME). I see PayPal as being smart and protective in this situation, not uncooperative. I know it's frustrating, but why haven't you filed a report yet? That would have been one of the first things I'd have done after learning someone really did attempt to open an account in my name.

Good luck! Chat Icon

We provided all the information name, addy, phone etc. Why is giving an email out such a huge step? We aren't asking for any financial info or SSNs etc.

As for not filing. My DH is in Myrtle Beach. He will be home on Sunday and we will do it then.

Re: Paypal Identity Theft Update #3

but there is no advantage to you getting the email. Its a protective measure. When we had cc theft before Christmas, they wouldn't tell us the exact address of where the items were being shipped, just that its in FL.

I know its annoying, but there is really no reason for them to give you the email, why so you can harass them, I'm sure the email account is canx (most theft is done w/numerous emails). Its not like you will find the person.

It's important due to PayPal's privacy policy. I don't want someone calling up, pretending to be me, and saying I opened an account in my name fraudulently -- and then getting ANY of my personal info, email included. Why? Mainly b/c it's important to me, but also b/c I bet PayPal's privacy statement states that they won't do that.

I KNOW it's frustrating, and I'm sorry it'a happening to you, but these same things that are frustrating you are also part of the same policy that potentially saved you a lot worse headache!

Good luck!

BTW, I'd have your DH call the police from where he is, even if he can't fill out the paperwork / sign where he is now. At least he can get more info on exactly who to report this to. I'd also ask PayPal if they report these incidents to federal authorities for further investigation. If not, I'd report it that way, too.

I agree. What do you plan to do with the email? Give it to the police, I hope. (I assume you wouldn't try to handle this without police involvement...) Well, the same result can be had by getting the police to obtain the personal information directly from Pay Pal. I'd go that route.

I'm sure its not an ex employee, its probably nobody you have ever met in your life. Cyber theft is like that, so really, there is no reason to get the persons email. Even if it was an ex employee, do you really think they would use an email you could figure out???
