Why am I so scared of Ebay??

I have to be one of the only people in the world that doesnt buy from or sell on ebay. The selling part looks so overwhelming to me. Everyone says once I start, I will be addicted to it (just what I need with my addictive personality! Chat Icon )

But I was wondering if someone could explain the selling process to me. I have TONS of baby stuff I need to sell and I need the room in here. Can someone explain it to me in laymans terms please! TIA!

Re: Why am I so scared of Ebay??

super simple...take a pic of the item, post it with a description (including the condition) and wait for it to sell

set up a paypal account (free) and link it to your bank account to accept the money from the winner...

so EASY

ditto, its such a great way to make some extra cash.

Take a photo, research to see how much you should charge, list your item (with descrption), then wait for people to start bidding.
Set up paypal and you're good to go!

It really is Easy ! My only suggestion is to be descriptive and include all the details of an item that you can. I tend to list mine using bullets so it stands out and doesn't get too boring. I also research past auctions and current ones to find a sell price.

Go for it !

There are a lot of books out there, but it's super easy.

Browse Ebay for items similar to what you have to get an idea of pricing. Take the photo and list it. If you have never used it before buying something first to get feedback and see how it all works might be helpful.

I am the least computer savvy person and love it! I have sold hundreds of items in the past 3 years. It is kind of addictive Chat Icon

Just look in ebay under "baby clothing" and see how much people are charging for shipping. That's where I get my estimates.

But it is definitely addicting!

But for other things, like toys, books, whatever, do you just look at someone else's listing and hope that they are charging enough?

Re: Why am I so scared of Ebay??

I am totally addicted.

There are so many "treasures" out there that sell and for me, it's fun finding them. I have cleaned out my house, my parents, my IL's and a few friends have given me things. You would be surprised what sells.

Right now, I have a lot of 14 Old Navy t-shirts selling for $45! Chat Icon

You're not alone, I don't "do" ebay either. I've never bought anything there but I'm not much of an online shopper to begin with. I tried selling something once but it never went.

Re: Why am I so scared of Ebay??

Do you all set a reserve price for your items? Or do you start the bidding at the lowest price you'd be willing to sell it for?

I'd be so scared that it would sell for like $1!

It depends. I've only used reserve price if it's something $$$. If you are going to start a bid as low as $1 and are not sure if it will sell for at least such and such amount, you may want to put in a reserve.

To OP selling baby clothes- if they're not popular brand names, I would sell it in lots- jmo.

For shipping, I usually go with priority(just find it easiest for me) and after you do it for a while you have a good idea of what to charge. I also might offer another shipping option like first class or parcel. If you have a small home scale, you can just weigh the item(s) and put in the shipping by weight.

Re: Why am I so scared of Ebay??

Ok, list the item for the absolute lowest you would accept. If its unknown brands, like some baby clothing is, then do lots of clothes. I've had great success with lots of clothes. If its new with tag, it will sell on its own. If its name brand (GAP, Osh Kosh, Children's Place, Gymboree) it will sell on its own. Keep in mind, used clothing should obviously cost less than retail, my policy is 50-65% less than what I paid, but sometimes it ends up selling more. Right now I have 6 Mens T-Shirts listed and its up to 10 dollars. All the t-shirts are the silly t-shirts people got us from FL, vacations, my DH's union. So therefore, nothing cost us anything. I wouldn't make $10 at a garage sale for 6 used men's t-shirts. It really is amazing to see how things can really sell.
