I can't!!! The text can't be that important to put my attention to it rather then the road...I am lucky I can talk on my bluetooth & drive Chat Icon

Re: Do you TWD? Text While Driving?

No. Never. I think it's a horribly selfish thing to do.

Honestly, stuff like this REALLY bothers me. There are other people on the road and people who are texting while driving and doing all sorts of other things that seriously distract them are making the roads more and more dangerous. I cannot for the life of me understand why people think that their text message is more important than my safety and the safety of all the other drivers and pedestrians out there.

Sometimes I want to shake these people and tell them -- "You and your text message are not more important than the rest of us. Get over yourself!"

No. I've done it at a red light, and immediately drop the phone when the light changes.

But I agree with Kara. I think its WAY more dangerous that talking on the phone while driving.

Never, then again I rarely text, but I also consider it very dangerous. I also don't talk on my phone for the same reasons unless I'm on the bluetooth speaker.

On the rare occasion, if I'm at a red light, I may try and get a text in (usually me trying to get a phone # to my DH), but as soon as the light changes, the phone goes down and I wait until my car is stopped again. Even then I still worry that a cop may see me using my phone while in vehicle, so I try and keep it to a minimum.

I am guilty of it at times but I only send quick ones. Horrible grammar and spelling.

Thank you! ITA!! I suspect my DH does it when we're not together and I'm always on his case about it even though I've never seen him do it!

ditto.

i've done it a time or two. i have a qwerty keyboard on my phone---so i've done a msg or two really fast on the phone. but i won't do it while driving like on a highway or something---if i'm stopped at a light or something. not that it makes it okay---but i've done it.

Never (and not just because I don't even have text service on my cell Chat Icon ). I don't even drive while talking on my cell. Never have, and now its against the law. Just seeing other people drive like idiots while chatting away is enough to scare me off the road.

NEVER!!! OMG - it gets me crazy. I can't image what message is so important that you have to use a hands on device while operating a vehicle. There is no way on earth someone texting while driving is paying full attention to the road and other people around them. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

AMEN!!! Chat Icon

I think people who text and drive should have their licenses suspended for 30days. Gives them time to text.

That's what I want to know. After all, these people are putting whatever is in that text message above the safety of other people on the road. Sure, maybe they haven't been in an accident yet -- but that doesn't mean it's without risk.

Stuff like this (and it's not just texting - it's the cell phones, doing your makeup, brushing hair, shaving, and all the other stuff I've actually seen drivers doing on the road) makes me wonder what we as a society really value. If we have so many people who think their text message is SO IMPORTANT that it can't wait until they're out of the car, yet at the same time not important enough to pull over for -- where are you placing the value in that equation? I have to wonder if it's just that people don't think through the consequences, that they think "it'll never happen to me," or if they just think it / they really are that much more important than the rest of us.

I'm not trying to single ANYONE out - Clearly a lot of people do it. I just do not understand it. Just like I'll never understand the people who have to blow red lights and drive like maniacs to get where they are going 1 minute earlier... I don't understand why there is more value placed on getting somewhere faster than there is on getting there safely.

I'm guilty of being impatient, too, and with struggling to balance what really IS important with things that are less important. I have a blackberry for work with way too many important emails coming in. I like to get my phone calls and want to be on time and be responsible and communicative about work, etc. But, I also take a step back and realize -- answering an email / text message / the phone or getting there 1 minute earlier is not worth the risk of injuring myself or anyone else...
