I was basically just wondering if Mazda makes good cars. My mom said that my aunt has a mazda and has had nothing but problems with it. She has had to get 2 transmissions, etc

I am in the market for a new, reasonable priced car Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have a Mazda?

I have a 1999 Mazda 626. I love the car, I havent had any problems with it - just regular maintenance type stuff. (Tune up, tires, brakes etc). Just recently I've been getting a check engine light, but at almost 10 years old and 125,000 milles I would expect that.

I love my car... and I'm kind of sad that Mazda doesnt make any new cars that I'm in love with. (The new ones are either SUVs or too sporty for me, I prefer a 'luxury' sedan.) I love that there are very few people that have my car, it's just not another Camry or Accord in the parking lot. In fact in the color I have (blue) I've only ever seen 2 other ones in the past 9 years.

An old coworker of mine had a 626 for about 12 years, before parting with it (not because of maintenance issues, just because they wanted a new car.)

Yeah, I don't know why they discontinued it. Chat Icon To me, the new Mazda 3 and the Mazda 6 are the same. Why they didnt leave one 'luxury' sedan and then have one 'sporty' sedan is beyond me.

Re: Anyone have a Mazda?

I have a 98 Protege ... it gets pretty light use, I only work about 15 minutes from my house. I've had it for about 8 years now.

I had to replace the transmission when I first got it (off someone's 2 year lease return), but it was still under the waranty then. The tacometer does some funky stuff with a bouncing needle, even when the car is at a stoplight .... but its nothing serious/dangerous.

Overall I'd say I'm happy with it.

Re: Anyone have a Mazda?

I have a mazda and DH used to have a mazda. Neither of us ever experienced any problems with the car. Dh doesn't have his anymore because he had the opportunity to get a mustang which is a car he wanted for many years (just wanted to clarify that he doesn't have a mazda anymore for a different reason not because anything went wrong with the car).
As for customer service, I think the dealership we got our cars from has been nothing but wonderful to us. I would, and do, recommend Mazda to friends and family.

Re: Anyone have a Mazda?

THE ORIGINAL MAZDA GEEK RIGHT HERE!!!

Im on my fourth Mazda and LOVE them

93 MX-3 (bought 96, traded in 2005 130K)
92 MX-3 (bought 06, vandalized/totalled 06 200K)
03 Mazda6 (bought 05 - loving it and still driving it 30K)
00 Tribute (bought 06 - loving it and still driving it 90K)

My truck is awesome for snow and big hauling, but still really comfy for transporting people when needed. I got it when I realized my Mazda 6 would NOT be a family car.

My Mazda6 was originally bought a as a family car but we ending up modifying it to fix one small problem that ended up being an addiction. Chat Icon

FM me if you want more info

Places I would not recommend purchasing your Mazda:
All Star Mazda - Hempstead
Country Mazda - Huntington

Places I know good things about:
Smithtown Mazda

I have heard Wantagh Mazda is alright too but I have no personal experience. Their service department is alright but won't do most stuff on weekends which is a pain.

Believe it or not the BEST service ever has been Country Mazda (which is not run by the same ppl as the sales dept - THANK GOD)

All star Mazda sold me a car, then charged me for my first oil change and damaged my bumper while it was in the shop and said since I couldnt prove the damage wasn't there before, I had to pay for it (this was one month after purchase) I have a friend who worked in the Service Dept and he said it was horrible and left. Sales dept refused to give me an owners manual and gave me hell when I asked for repairs they promised me (cigarette burns on back seat, ruined tire) because even tho the rep did promise it, he forgot to write it down, so his boss wouldn't honor it.

Country Mazda inherited the sales reps from All Star Mazda, and they sold me my truck. I tried to get $1000 less than the best offer, they refused. Then one month later my hubby found my truck (Exact Vin#) for sale on their site for the price I wanted to pay. When I went back they told me "We're not Macy's you can't get a refund"

The vehicles are GREAT, just keep them up with their oil changes and check ups and they'll last forever.

This is where I got my Mazda. Sales was OK, I really don't remember much except for signing. I was young and my boss did all the negotiations, I just signed on the dotted line. It took a while to get my car, but that is because it is a color that they did not make many of, so I had to wait a month for it to be produced and delivered (I was glad I waited and didn't give in to a differnet color.)

You're right about the service, they will only do oil changes on Saturdays, and they are closed on Sunday. For anything more than that you need to drop off at 7:30AM and then pickup later on. Kind of annoying but I've never had a problem with them. We had one small problem with leaking brake fluid, and they found the problem in an hour - after I brought it to 2 or 3 other places and they could never fix the problem (and charged me for other things that they said would fix the problem, but didn't fix them.)
