I'm afraid of both !!
Me too. I'm not scared of the contractions but i'm scared SH*T of him actually coming out. And my stomach...I don't even want to think about what that will look like.
That's how I feel! I just get nervous about the whole delivery process, b/t the epidural, the stitches, the bleeding. I just hope for a healthy and safe delivery.
Same here. I am TERRIFIED at the thought of this baby coming out!!!

Sounds like my first year of marriage also. Trust me when I tell you that you will look back on this as one of the best years. One of the hardest as well. But very exciting too

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
Posted by DmarieK It took 1/2 at 7:30p.m...I can imagine what it will be during the day.
I'm estimating 30 minutes, too. But that's no big deal, right? Labor takes hours and hours. I'm more nervous about his driving- if he wants to take th emini he's going to be FLYING- which I don't like. Wait a minute- nm there's no WAY he will drive my possibly water leaking asss in the mini. We're safe.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
I am actually pretty calm about the labor. The epidural makes me nervous. When I was in nursing school, I once passed out watching one put in.
It's the aftermath I am not looking foward to. I don't like feeling uncomfortable "down there". So the idea of pads & bleeding.....Is more of a fear for me.

I agree- it's the mention of pads that skeeve me the most. I have been in some serious pain before- pain doesn't scare me. But aftermath does.

I heard it was the next day but that doesn't seem right to me. What if you give birth early in the morning...they can't make you wait until the next day...can they?

totally not alone......i have to say what scares me the most is the epidural.....im literally panic-y over it.....i tell myself u dont have to get one but then i think geeeez women say that thats the only thing that got them through the pain of the labor/delivery....am i gonna be able to hold out and deal with that kind of pain without an epidural....im verrrrrrrrry good with pain so i dont know i guess well see but i am scared and like i said before u r sooooooooo not alone

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
Are you kidding me? I can barely sleep at night. I am terrified.
What it is going to feel like to push a watermelon out of a hole the size of a grapefruit!!!
The pain, the isolation, the helplessness as your body does something it has a natural idea but you have no clue what its doing.
The fact that every day is closer to that day when I will feel like an island of misery, confusion, pain and frustration while professionals calmly look on in interest but patronizingly reassuring me. It’s not going to be alright, its NEVER going to be alright!
The whole birthing processes is horrifying!!! Can’t even watch it on tv without feeling my nerves shake.
Yep, I’m terrified. My only hope is, I’ll either get through it or die. No real other choice is there. But I KNOW I’m going to hate the doctors and nurses (although I am sure I’ll say nice things that day).
But… what can ya do?

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
I am so scared!!! I'm afraid that Im not going to be able to take the pain even after the epidoral. Im also so scared of the possibility of a c-section. To this point I have never had surgery, or even stayed at a hospital. I just can't imagine it.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
i'm pretty much terrified! i practically passed out today during the repeated needle sticks for the 3 hour glucose and that's obviously going to be nothing compared to delivery!! and the birthing classes are seriously making me more scared! for me a lot of it is fear of the hospital since i have been lucky enough never to have had any medical procedures before.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
Labor, contractions, giving birth...doesn't scare me (at least not now). It's afterwards that bothers me the most - dealing with the recovery, the stitches, etc.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
I was terrified also. Towards the end I was so uncomfortable that I just wanted him out. It helps ease the thought of the pain.
Everyone is different but my belly is pretty much back to normal. I don't have any stretch marks and the linea negra has gotten a lot lighter.

It honestly worse than labor and giving birth if you ask me. Its uncomfortable for about two weeks. That is the part I hated the most.

I am not one to handle pain. PAin definately scares me. The whole labor thing scares the living @rap out of me. I also have had a flat stomach my whole life and I fear having a saggy belly. (call me crazy)

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
Not only am I terrified about going through the pain but also the number of hours being in pain...the wait must be complete and total torture, that is what scares me most even though the end result is priceless.

Getting big is so gradual. I am 7 months and when I look down I am like hmm I'm not that big. but then I look in the mirror and am like wow. you get used to it. Hard to explain.
I did this twice already and I am affraid that this one will come out face up (posterior - sunnyside up) again. DARN that hurts. pain in the belly and then tail bone splitting at the same time. If it happens again I hope I have the strenght to get this one out. sometimes they wind up in c-sections or hours of pushing. I was in great shape then and got them out in an hour. UGGG

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
Gosh- I cant even fathom the thought! Everytime I see a labor on TV, I cringe. It actually makes me feel guilty . I'm not the type of person that can withstand any type of pain (Let alone labor), however as one poster said "its either I get through it or die".. Thats pretty much my only choice. I'm scared to death. I feel like my life is at the mercy of all these docs & nurses in the delivery room (most of whom I probably never met in my life!) Its a scary horrifying thought that runs in my mind everyday. However, the thought of having that baby gasp its very first air of life & watching my husbands face would be something I would do anything for.
I know its going to be an amazing experience. Forget about getiing engaged & getting married. NOTHING compares to this feeling. Absolutely nothing.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
im also terrified of labor. I feel like id rather have the c-section cause i really dont think im going to be able to push anything out of me. I had my ovary removed when i was 12 and have a scar down there already and the recovery wasnt That bad..im sure its much worse though having a baby taken out..Wow just the thought gives me shivers

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
This is kind of morbid but...
I was always scared of the process but after going through a natural miscarriage, I am less scared. Yes, I didn't push or anything like that, but I had some pretty strong contractions that a few Vicodin didn't dull.
My thought process is - if I can get through that - a miscarriage at home with no "gift" at the end" I can get through labor knowing I will have my child to hold.
