Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
I was afraid until i realized i was going to go past my due date. now i just want to get it overwith. I think as you get towards the end you really just want to go back to being a normal person and finally get to meet the baby so badly that you start to forget that in order to get there, you have to go thru excruciating pain! I would seriously love to go into labor right now! I am 40w2d. Oh, and I am the BIGGEST baby ever. I cant even normally handle a papercut. I hope this makes you feel a little better!

Just a word of encouragement, I was thin before DD#1 and was thin after. My belly looked good, I could wear a bikini with no problem the 1st summer after she was born. My belly button was slightly different than before but nobody would know but me. I did not even go to the gym until she was 2 years old. There is hope and if you have good genetics and you will look great after too!

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
honestly, for me anyway, it wasnt that bad at all..yes the contractions were not fun, but once i got the epi, i honestly did not feel anything and even the pushing for me didnt hurt..i think as long as you try to relax the best that you can and go with it you will be more then fine...that whole experience is so surreal. you will be fine hth you a little bit.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
Since this is my second child, I'm not necessarily scared but still uneasy about complications that can happen or having to go for a c-section. That part is still an unknown and I guess there a bit of curiosity/nervousness. Basically the fear of the unknown, but that's normal for me!
eta: Just take it as it comes to you, you'll be able to handle it. Your body does take over!

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
Fear of the unknown.. Hoping the hospital will have a labor room for me and not being in the hallway or recovery area. Also if I have the strengh to push this one out. Lots of unknowns. Its totally normal. Just be as ready as you can with lots of reading and getting things together and then just take it as it goes. Dont think to far ahead when your in labor. Just about holding a precious baby soon

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
It's funny I was just asking DH about this last night... I said are you nervous or scared or anything. He is calm and cool, however its not his body that will be doing all the work so I guess for him it is sooo different. For me, I am 30 weeks 4 days and terrirfied of all the changes that will be occuring over the next 2 months. I'm also going through tons of changes though right now, new car, different jobs, possibly a new place to live and our first baby and this is all before our one year anniversary of being married. I also hope that my body bounces back at least a little afterwards. I was never skinny skinny but I was relatively thin so i'm that will return as well.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
I was talking to my boyfriend the other night on the way home from the hospital tour. I made a comment on how it was so far away and would seem even further when I was actually in labor and scared. He actually said to me "your not going to be scared...why would you be scared...your just going to be in pain" I was like are you kidding?????????? Let's see how scared he would be if he had to push something out of his pen*s!!!!!!

I'm also nervous about the distance to the hospital- we live in Patchogue, and are delivering at St. Charles...
Did you do the tour with the lamaze class?

I live a little further out east. It took 1/2 at 7:30p.m...I can imagine what it will be during the day.
I didn't take a Lamaze class...i'm going to get a video instead. That's why I did the tour...but I didn't really find it usefull.

That's how I feel! I just get nervous about the whole delivery process, b/t the epidural, the stitches, the bleeding. I just hope for a healthy and safe delivery.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
I am terrified! I worry about complications from the epidural, and I wish dh could be there and hold my hand when I get it, because I am a big baby. I worry about throwing up, because im sure I will, I worry about there being a problem with the baby, and having to have an emergency c, but mostly I worry about actually pushing this baby out...his head is already 4.61 cms...dont you only dialate to 10? This kid has 20 more weeks of growing its not going to fit

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
If I don't think about it I'm not scared. So I don't think about it. But I am concerned about my distance to the hospital and finding exactly which building I'm supposed to go to. The last thing I need is to be wandering around Washington Heights while in labor because my hospital has a dozen different buildings.

That 10 cm thing is not an actual measurement (I learned this from my childbirth dvd). It's more of a guesstimation based on what the doctors see when the baby is crowning. So don't worry about the actual measurement of his head because they won't consider you fully dilated until the exit is large enough to accomodate him.
Which makes me say, yet again, I'm SO GLAD I have no idea how large is. Because she's GOT TO BE tremendous.

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
You will be fine Lauren... It's a piece of cake, especially if you have an epidural. I was in labor 24 hrs and was induced, It was very easy for me. Everyone is different but the epidural is a wonderful thing and in the end everything is worth it!

Re: Is anyone scared about giving birth?
I was SO scared!!! I cried so many times to my mother about the fear of the unknown. It's really not that bad because you'll have the epidural. THe only b1tch is the recovery. I'm the biggest baby with pain. If I can do it, then you can too.
I worried about my body afterwards too, but I have to say after 3 months I got back into my regular clothing. You just have to be determined to get back into shape after you have the baby.
just to add....you'll be surprised at how your skin can stretch and then go back to it's original shape...
All it takes is time....and a good girdle.
