pre-pg diet.. what have you changed?

Last feb I quit my bcp and made a few changes.

See I love sushi, med-rare steak, shrimp, mussels, clams, lobster. And I was official coke-addict (soda) All I hear are no-nos

So I quit sodas. I now drink water (which is tough, since even before I hated water). I have tea at home with dinner only all other times is water and OJ or juices. that means after dinner, I only get water or a 'drink' if I want one, but no more tea.

I never drank coffee so no biggie there and I took up my favorite juice now for mornings OJ about 15oz daily.

I try to get nuts into my diet (get big jars of cashews at Costco)

Brocolli (which I love) is in almost every evening meal (stuffed chicken, with steak, stir fry etc).

I REALLY cut out pre-packaged and fried meals.

Now I started this a year ago so I wouldnt suffer if I get pg and have to give stuff up. Tho I still can't give up a good tuna maki, sashmi, sushi !!

What have you done?

NADA!

I don't want to change a thing until I get my BFP.

Until then, I will enjoy my coffee, sushi, and cocktails! Chat Icon

I've done nothing... BUT, I did cut out soda, pre-packaged food, fast food, and junk food YEARS AGO. I also don't like sushi, so no problems there.

I do still drink my mug of coffee in the morning, but it's half decaf....

Little tip on the water thing:
I hate drinking water too.... so I make a giant 2 L bottle to drink throughout the day with 20% juice and 80% britta water. I don't skimp on the juice. I get whatever outrageous juice I want. Blueberry, currant, mixed berry..... It makes drinking all that water almost irresistable! Chat Icon

Re: pre-pg diet.. what have you changed?

I haven't changed anything-- in fact I was surprised to learn that some of the things that I eat regularly actually promote fertility, i.e., baby carrots, green tea, etc.

The only thing that I have really changed, is that I take a folic acid supplement in addition to my multi.

I eat pretty healthy, and don't drink too often-- although after New Years and returning from vacation, I have drank more in the last month than normal.

Re: pre-pg diet.. what have you changed?

I haven't changed too much, I've cut down on soda and more water, and started vitamins..the biggest thing I'm doing is cutting down on cigarettes..I'm not a heavy smoker, but there is no way in H***l I'm smoking while I'm pregnant or even after, so I've cut down a lot and I know the second I get my BFP I'm done...
I'm starting to think my smoking is making it harder for me to even get PG...so I'm trying to stop completely NOW...

Re: pre-pg diet.. what have you changed?

I've started on pre-natals, no caffeine and no alcohol.

THere are some studies that show that caffeine and alchohol can play a part in having a hard time to TTC. I don't want to take any chances and I want this so bad that it's not really a sacrafice.

the only thing that I gave up is tuna, b/c of all of the mercury which stays in your system for a very long time. And, I still eat it sometimes. I used to eat it 2-3 times a week and order it in restaurants too.....now only once in a while.

Other than that, nothing will change until a BFP

Re: pre-pg diet.. what have you changed?

I changed my diet only because I am taking Metformin and it can do a number on your stomach if you eat fatty foods. So because of that I started eating more veggies, eating whole wheat breads and pastas. Everything else I try to eat in moderation. I try my hardest to drink lots of water (not my fav thing to do lol).
I also take pre-natals.

Re: pre-pg diet.. what have you changed?

I went on a health kick in the month before I went off BCP - regular exercise, smaller meals throughout the day. I haven't really cut out anything with the intention of TTC, but I have been making an effort to control my portion sizes a bit better. I don't eat much in the way of processed foods anyway, and I very rarely drink soda, just water. Since we're officially TTC now, I'm trying to avoid coffee where possible and trying to drink fewer glasses of wine when out! Chat Icon (easier said than done!)
