Fire on Jericho in Commack
I heard on the radio a minute before I got there, that Jericho was closed in Commack. They said there was a fire. They closed off Jericho just west of the 454 merge, and made everyone take Commack Rd, either north or south.
I'll have to keep an eye out on the way home to see if I can see any damaged buildings...

I heard it on the news and they said it was a restaurant that caught fire.

Didn't that just happen not two weeks ago? A motel near the Mayfair shopping center?
Wow. Tis the season, I guess.

Thanks. Wow, the call came in at 3:30, and Jericho was still closed at 7:00..... Luckily, the fire station is almost directly across the street from them!

Re: Fire on Jericho in Commack
I just passed Jericho at 9am and it was still closed, but its closed to much farther down past the firehouse, but theres a lot of restraunts in between, ruby tuesdays looked fine. so it must have been one of the smaller ones.

Re: Fire on Jericho in Commack
Drove past it on the way home. At 4:30pm, there were still several fire trucks and police cars there.
IT IS GONE!!!!! There's nothing left but a side wall and parts of the back wall. It is totally burned down......

That thrills me to no end. The owner and staff treated my DISTRAUGHT mother horribly when we were there the day after my grandmother died (it was my baby shower... talk about poor planning).

I have to tell my sister about this. It was her favorite restaurant and always told DH and I to go try it.

that place needed some major updating - a little TLC in the cleanliness and decorating department if you know what i mean! hmm - can anyone say ARSON?! i shouldn't joke - someone could have gotten hurt but luckily no one did so i can laugh.

i have not heard anything about it being suspicious - yet. but i took char to get groomed this morning and passed by it - the place is GONE - barely one little piece of wall is standing - apparently, they had a very difficult time putting it out and then, after a little bit, it went on fire AGAIN - so, that makes me think perhaps it was a gas leak and partial explosion - followed by fire b/c the flames were shooting up out of control (my FIL told me) and he said that it usually doesn't get like that - that strong - without it being fueled by something - that also explains the fact that it went on fire again about an hour or two after they thought they had put it out... i mean, the building is literally gone so it makes me think gas was involved somehow - that doesn't mean it can't be arson, of course. i guess they'll investigate that. also, there is like a type of sand all over the road and FIL told me they use this to control fires that are caused by gas leaks or like an oil fueled fire - the sand helps keep the fire out - the sand was everywhere!

Re: Fire on Jericho in Commack
Iwas wondering what happened here. I was driving by at like 10-11am
Did that place ever do good business ? It always shocked me when I drove by and have never seen a car parked there or a person walking in, or any action at all.. and wondered if they have any relation to the Il Giardino in Douglaston which is INCREDIBLE, and VERY popular and always busy... anyone know if there's any relation?
how sad

Re: Fire on Jericho in Commack
My FIL has a store in commack not too far from there on Jericho and lives in commack- he has heard people talking that it is arson and that the owner wanted to get out of business. He's heard other things that are suspicious about this. I guess we'll find out pretty soon! My parents just got a gift certificate for that place as well.

Re: Fire on Jericho in Commack
My mom said they had to bulldoze it, which is why only one wall was left.

Re: Fire on Jericho in Commack
I drove past yesterday. Jericho tpk is all white (from sand or the hoses or something). The restaurant is completley gone and there was still a cop car sitting there.
