HELP! My deceased FIL keeps receiving NY City parking tickets!

If anyone out there can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

My father in law died more than 10 YEARS ago. However, since August of this year, he received 2 New York City parking tickets.

The first time, we wrote a letter saying that he is deceased and there are no cars or plates registered in his name. They sent another letter, still demanding payment, so we sent in a copy of his death certificate.

Now, he just received ANOTHER parking ticket from New York City! We live in NJ, but they have his name and address listed on the ticket.

We don't know what to do. What does this mean? Can they put a lien on my MIL's house?

This happened to me once...I got a parking ticket saying I was double parked in Queens...however, I was working in Massapequa...interesting how I was in two places in one time.


We called the City and spoke to one lady who was very helpful....for one the ticket said I had a gray car...at the time my car was black...She said that they make mistakes all the time accidentally swapping letters and numbers. So she waived the ticket (we told them I could provide time cards from my job showing that I was there at the time and date of the ticket)
I would call them, and tell them what is going on.

Thanks! At first, we thought it was just someone mistyping a plate number.

But, TWO in a couple of months? Now I'm imagining the worst.

I would investigate further. Is it the same car on both tickets? Is it possible that after FIL passed plates werent returned? Was one of his cars sold and the title information wasnt changed? IMO its too much of a coincidence to have received TWO tickets.

This happened to my brother a few years ago. It turns out, he sold his car, and turned in the plates at the DMV. The DMV told him that someone must have taken the plates he turned it to them and used them on their car and they were the ones raking up the parking tickets. They did their own investigation and took care of it for him and he was not responsible for the tickets.
