Re: three month rule??

I told my whole family already...and some close friends. We've been trying so long I couldn't stand to keep it a secret.

Re: three month rule??

We told our immediate family and close friends right away. Then we told our extended family at 10 weeks (2 weeks short of 3 months, because my SIL was going to Florida and would spill the beans).

Plenty of people wait 3 months though, that is when you are through the first trimester and the chance of a miscarriage goes down a lot.

Re: three month rule??

I waited until almost 12 weeks to tell friends and my boss. My paretns knew at around 6 weeks, and waited until 10 weeks to tell the rest of my family (but I suspect my mom told them and said not to say anything until I told them).

Re: three month rule??

Most people wait till 3 months because after that a miscarriage is rare. I told my family and friends right away.

Re: three month rule??

We told our families immediately (about a week after we got our BFP) and the beans got spilled at my work about a week later, so everyone knew by about 6 weeks.

The chances of a miscarriage goes down after your 1st trimester so some people wait until after then to tell people.

Re: three month rule??

I was almost 10 weeks when I told my parents and we told my brothers, sisters and aunts & uncles a few days later.

I am asking my family not to tell anyone else & they are sort of arguing with me about it. They can't understand me asking them to wait until my next appointment when I will be around 12 weeks. It is getting frustrating already with them and they only know for a week or lessChat Icon

I waited some time for a few reasons:

1. We were able to enjoy our own little secret for a few weeks!!!!

2. I wanted to wait until the forst sono to tell them because I have not had many symptoms (no morning sickness at all) and wanted to see it for myself first!!

Re: three month rule??

We waited until we saw the heartbeat on the u/s to tell our parents, so it was 7 weeks. We also told some very close friends then too. We told most of the extended family at 10 weeks. Those who live farther away we will tell at 12 weeks. I want to wait to tell work after Christmas break (I'll be 14 weeks before and 16 weeks after).

We're waiting until the 12th week to tell our family and friends. Less than a handful of people know now and since my mom has had 2 miscarriages, well... i want to be sure before everyone else knows! Chat Icon

Besides i'm one who if i were to have a miscarriage, that's something i'd like to go through by myself. I wouldn't want everyone asking me each day how i'm doing because that would only make it worse.

But those are my reasons. Good luck! Chat Icon

During my last pregnancy, I told my family at 6 weeks only to tell them at 8 weeks that I miscarried. That was so hard to do that I don't want to tell anyone until I am almost 12 weeks.

Everyone is different. A few friends know and my sister know, but that is all.

Re: three month rule??

After having 4m/c's I am a strong believer in the 3 month rule. After my first m/c(i had told everyone at 7 weeks and m/c'd at 9) I had a client come in and ask how I was feeling and I burst into tears. Lesson learned!

Most people live by this rule however I feel you should go by whatever makes you comfortable. As for me, we told our families and some friends right away. It's not until now that we are sharing the good news with everyone. I couldn't even hide if from anyone even if I wanted too being that I'm now starting to show. Strangers are now notcing, I'm currently 12w1d.

We were pg I told my Mom the day after my doc confirmed I was PG on a pee test. I miscarried the next day. It was awful.

The next two times I was pg (my dd and now) I waited to tell my Mom I was pg until after my first sono. We told dh parents after the fact the first time about a month and half after with my dd (at their 50th wedding anniversary) and we told them about 5 days after my Mom this time.

Re: three month rule??

We told our parents right away when we got a BFP... Our siblings were told at the 9 week mark after we heard the heartbeat... Everyone else was told after we had our 12 week sonogram and everything looked great...

We waited excatly 3 months to tell anyone. We wanted to have the 12 week ultrascreen done to make sure that everything was Ok before we told family and friends.

Re: three month rule??

I told my mom and SIL (who is due in April) right away. I told my boss next since I work with chemicals. Then I told my ILs, grandparents, siblings. The rest of the world didn't find out until after our 12 week ultrasound. Once I saw the baby and everything was OK, I felt it was time to tell. I couldn't wait the 2 moer weeks for the 2nd trimester.

some people prefer it that way. I am one that does not. We told when we wanted to. usually right away. I lost a baby and am glad we told everyone because I needed everyone afterwards.
