Spinoff Voter Post - If you're not voting, how come?

No judgment, really just curious why people are definitely not voting tomorrow.

I feel horrible about it, because I do take voting very seriously. But since we've moved, I haven't registered in Suffolk yet, and I wouldn't even know where to go.

class 7am-2, travel to work, work from 2:30-close.

Polls are closed when I leave, and closed when I get home!

I have never missed an election, but this year our move is scheduled for election day so unfortunately I cannot vote. I even worked for a candidate so it makes me really sad.

Being a history teacher it is VERY important to me.

Don't forget, if you ever know you won't be available in your home district that day you can request an absentee ballot. Just call the Board of Elections for your county.

I've done it and because my Dad's disabled he's on the permanent list to receive one.

Just in case you don't know polls open at 6 am. I always had to be at work before 7am and always vote before work.

Polling Places open 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.

(Copied that directly from the nyc.gov site. Not sure where everyone is voting, but I'm sure other areas have similar polling times.)

Not judging either, of course. But my thought is that if you really want to do something, you'll find a way to do it.

Re: Spinoff Voter Post - If you're not voting, how come?

When I lived in Spain, Election Day was huge... Everyone made a really big deal about it, like they were honored to be able to vote (which of course they were, after coming out of Fascism). People got dressed up to go to the polls, then they would go out for a coffee or drink to celebrat. And, ALL offices are required to give 1 - 2 hours off for people to be able to vote. I always thought what a wonderful thing it is for everyone in a nation to take their responsilbility so seriously.

Only since then do I make the effort to vote. I wish we were encouraged more, and supported in the workplace to do our duties as citizens of a free country that our forefathers fought so hard to give us this privelidge...

Re: Spinoff Voter Post - If you're not voting, how come?

A couple things. One, the vote in NJ over governor is bad candidate vs. bad candidate.

I can't even pick a lesser evil of the two!!

The other is that I'm going to be at a conference all day and I can't get away to vote(I'm running the conference from 8 - 8.)

It's a shame, because I'm usually very enthused about the voting process.

Yeah, that's quite a situation! I've been following that campaign.

When I lived in Queens, I voted every year. When I moved a few months ago, it didn't even occur to me to register to vote. If there was a major gubernatorial/presidential election I would have remembered but now I live in a small town and I just don't yet feel informed enough about my new town and the candidates to make an informed decision.
