Okay -- my stomach is all in knots over this.

2 weeks ago when we brought Emily for her well baby visit the doctor said we had to take her off of the pulmicort (asthma med in the nebulizer) for 2-3 weeks before she could have her MMR shot because it could cause a severe reaction.

They almost gave her the MMR --- it wasn't until I asked if we were going to keep her pulmicort at the same dosage that the doctor realized she was on it (didn't he flarking read her chart?!?!) and said you can't do the MMR when you are on that med.

So we waited until her stuffy nose cleared up, a few days, and took her off of the pulmicort, even though we were worried that this is a bad time of year for asthmatics.

It's been about a week and a half, almost 2 weeks and her asthma has been great.

But over the weekend she developed a cold, and this afternoon it got bad, and she was wheezing. I called the dr. to say that we were putting her back on the nebulizer, and asked for them to call me back.

The doc called me back before he left the office. He said absolutely, start the neb back again, that's first and foremost----and that we'll deal with the MMR once she gets well again.

I said that honestly, I don't want to go through this every few weeks through the winter. Could we just postpone the MMR until the spring? When the weather is warmer her asthma isn't so bad.

I asked if there was a certain time we needed to wait between MMR shots --- since she had her first shot at 18 months---would it be a problem if we waited another 6 months or do we need to do them within 6 months of eachother.

So he says.....

according to their records she didn't recieve the MMR at 18 months!?!?!?!?!

what?!?! Are you kidding me? According to my records, the book that you and your office write down her immunizations for me in, she has had it.

He said no, she had yadda yadda yadda at 18 months, but hasn't recieved the first MMR.

I was driving when he called me back and during this convo, so I said OK, I'll check the book when I got home.

I got home, checked it, and there, clear as day, it says that she recieved the MMR on 1/19/07 in the nurses handwriting. She has already been given her first MMR shot, according to my records.

So which record is wrong, and which is right? Was she given the MMR, or not? And if she did recieve it in January, then she recieved it months before her 18th month birthday, and aren't you supposed to give the first one at 18 months?!?!

I am so confused and so PIZZED that there is a discrepancy in my child's immunization records. I don't know if I can even trust that she's been properly vaccinated if they are basically telling me that what I have as a record and what they have as a record do not match.

I am going to call them on my lunch tomorrow and see if they can fax a copy of her immunization records to me at work....or at least go through them at work, but I am sick to my stomach about this and really just so angry.

Sorry, I just had to vent! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would be absolutely FUMING and looking for a new ped., to be quite honest. Is there anyway they can find out if she has had her MMR? A titer test or something like that? I know it'll be a pain, but at least you'll know for sure.
And just as a sidenote, Ava had her MMR at 16 months.

call back and ask them if there is somewhere that they record the lot numbers in the chart or on an office chart.. there should be a way to track it down thru the lot number..
In the hospital god forbid we give a vaccine without recording the lot number.... Chat Icon i hope they get to the bottom of this.. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Definitely follow up. I am assuming your doing split doses... My kids got the MMR at 15 months (DD) and 18 months (DS) and they got it all in one shot. ANd if your doing split shots, I don't see why you can't wait until the spring.

I hope you can get this all cleared up! Chat Icon

A lot of good ideas from here, but another option might be to contact your insurance company and see if they paid for an MMR shot? Maybe they can give you a list of the shots that they paid for so far to give you an idea of what shots she got and when.

that is a great idea i would definatly check with the insurance company first and then i would look for a new pediatrician second!!!!!!! i feel that is totally unexceptable for them to not have correct records it could have had an extremly bad result Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

im glad that if your DD did receive the MMR shot that she had no adverse reactions Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would be sooooo annoyed too. I think asking about the titer is a good idea. That's how they check new hospital employees to see if they need a booster. The first MMR can be given any time after the first birthday. So, as long as Jan 2007 was after her first birthday, it is totally possible that it was given to her.

I agree. And calling your insurance company sounds like a good idea too. They sound pretty incompetent to screw up something that important. Chat Icon

Chat Icon 's - I would be so angry too.

I agree with calling your ins co to see if they got billed for the 1st MMR. Also - I would take the notes from the nurse over the dr. They are the ones who fill out all of the paperwork and really know what's going on (but I'm biased because my mom and sis are RN's).

Good luck!! I hope Emily feels better.

Re: Okay -- my stomach is all in knots over this.

A simialar situation had happen to me. When my 2yr old was born they sometimes give the hepititis shot in the hospital or in the drs office, well my son received the shot 3x's instead of 2. He was given the shot in the hospital, then at his 1wk check up and again at a 2wk check up. Originally my dr said just to have the shots in the office not in the hospital but for some reason I was looking at my papers from the hospital and I saw he did receive the shot then I looked again at my book with all the shots given at the drs and let me tell you I was beyond ******. Called the dr, they pulled his chart and realized he made a mistake and appoligized. Oh yeah sorry is good enough, my son was only 2wks old, like I would of known what to do if he would of had some kind of reaction to getting the shot an extra time, or how about if something could of happened. We hear all these crazy things re shots where we are sometimes unsure about giving them to our children but hey lets give them extra too. That was the first mistake they had made and by the second I said see ya later and got myself a new ped for my child. I hope you find out if your dc really received the shot or not, as you can see I know how stressfull this can be.Chat Icon
