Broadway strike question?

Do you think it will affect madison square garden?
I have tickets to see Cirque de soleil there tomorrow, but I haven't seen any info on it yet...
I'm guessing no, because it's not a broadway theatre but I don't know for sure.

Re: Broadway strike question?

I think all professional stage hands are in the same union, but they may be a different local since it's a differnt type of show and it's not a Broadway house. If I were union I'd be AEA, not IA, so I don't know the details.

But definitely call the theater and find out!

Re: Broadway strike question?

The stagehands are supposed to go on strike today starting with the matinee performances. Any theatre venue would be affected. Unless Cirque employees their own private stagehands, it will be closed down. All stagehands, whether they actually work on Broadway or not, are in the union. If there is a strike, they all walk out. Check before you go. I have tickets for this the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I'm hoping it's over by then.

Actually there are some produtions (including 8 Broadway shows) that ahve separate deals with the union and will NOT be going on strike, so it doesn't even apply to all 39 Broadway houses.

ETA: It also does not apply to non-profits on B'way, Off Broadway or Off-Off Broadway because they have separate contracts. My guess is that cirque will NOT be affected.

Re: Broadway strike question?

I don't think so, I think it just for the shows that use this particular union. Enjoy the show.
