We have been 1 income since June 06.
But...we rent. We only have 1 small car payment, no student loans, and moved out of state.
If DH lost his job, we have savings that we could ride out for about a year.
We are very conservative people. It was our plan for years to go 1 income.
I have started babysitting during the day so that we will be able to save again.

Not in Los Angeles and owning a home you can't. But we do have enough emergency reserves to last about a year if a tragedy were to strike.

Dh lost his job over the summer and we just made it every month on my salary.
If I lost my job, we would probably just skim by too.

we could "live" but not the way we do now
we would have to sell my DH beloved mustang- which would make him beyond upset
but with the mustang gone- I could pretty much pay all of the bills - including the rent and my SUV on my salary
my DH makes comission only- so he could support us both- sometimes- but not always and it would be way to stressful to ever try that!

If it were my job, no problem. If it were DH's job, we could do it but it would be tough. We have no cc debt and have enough in savings to be able to survive for about 1 year without DH's salary.

dh- yes, but it would be tight and he would work mega ot.
We are working on this because when, GOD willing, we start a family I would like to be a SAHM. I don't love my job, but Joe does, and he has more to offer in our field based on experience, time with the company, and many others. It makes since for him to be the one working and i'm very traditional in this respect. I'm just lucky I found a man that believes like me. If he lost his job...we would be screwed.

can we live as we do now...absolutely not. With my salary (and this is me working every single week and more as a freelancer--I lucked out with a great year), we could and have survived him trying to find work with his crappy-azz local this year and being out of work multiple times. But long-term, it's so scary...especially since I am job to job now.
If he was REALLY out of work, then we would have to pull Bella out of daycare (which is a significant expense) and cut all the luxuries we haven't had to do yet even with buying a house with a nauseating mortgage...

No way! We can barely live on two now and we rent. We both make decent money, I am a teacher and he works for Cablevision, but it is just never enough. We by no means lead extravagant life styles either. I can NOT remember the last time I bought myself something. I have a lot of student loans, we each have a truck, we have cc debt (working on paying that off), just no way!

No. We need both of my jobs and DH's. If we didn't have the CC debt that we have, we could pay all our other bills (mortgage, LIPA, etc.) and live pretty well off of what DH makes.
I cannot wait until we're CC debt free!!!

My salary is for more then DH's .... but we couldn't live on it alone. To be honest we are having a hard time living on both of our salaries, and we don't even own a house. Birthdays, holidays, special events that require us to spend a little bit of money basically means that a bill can't get paid. It sucks.
