You think a lot of crackheads, pimps, hookers and thieves are going to be hanging around in front of a prison? Bullcrap, they aren't coming anywhere near it! What's wrong with these people, all the criminals are locked up behind the walls and if a couple of them do get out what do you think they are going to do, hang around? Check real estate trends? They're freaking gone! That's the whole point of breaking out of prison to get as far away as they possibly can!"

but I would say that ANY SA facility at night would make me wary of my surroundings...even if it was Promises in Malibu.

an addict is an addict is an addict.

Why do you assume addicts would be hanging around outside the facility?

that reminds me of an old George Carlin skit Chat Icon

"Everybody wants more prisons. Everybody says "BUILD MORE PRISONS!....but not here."

But why? What's wrong? What's wrong with having a prison in your neighborhood? It would seem to me that it would make it a pretty crime free area don't you think? I was thinking the same thing!!!

Heres the thing - my dad worked in Jamaica for 20+ years, and sometimes into the evenings. He was around a lot of junk yards and warehouses, and it was a little scary at night.

But - right near the train station, you have Bally's Gym, and a lot of newer stores - its a little more developed and populated there. Its not an isolated type of area. I'd feel safe up until about 9-10PM. After that, I dont even think the rich upper east/west side areas are even that safe. I grew up in the city and spent a lot of time in those areas and they were scarier than brooklyn, IMO, because they were so abandoned.

also, I would not be scared of people coming to a treatment center trying to get clean!!!! Those would be good people to be around!!!

Also - I lived in Brooklyn for a few years - what would be considered not the best part (not crack town, but almost...)

and, there were always people on the streets at all times of night, hanging out, on steps in front of buildings, in front of bodegas, whatever. And they knew me, and I felt so safe with them around. I knew they wouldnt let anyone mess with the nice young girl they said hello to....

Re: How safe / unsafe is Jamaica, QUEENS?

the part of Jamaica your referring to sounds like its near Jamaica Hospital and there is a lot of activity there. Yes Jamaica is not the greatest place but its not the worst either it it a busy area. As a female going anywhere alone at night in the city it is dangerous. But I've walked around there at night and my hubby used to work around there so there is alot of activity.

If your really considering the job I would go at night, take someone with you of course and walk around see if YOUR comfortable. Chat Icon
