First Name + Last Name having similar sounds?
I am full of questions today
Ok, DH and I do NOT NOT NOT agree on boys names.AT.ALL. That is, except for one - Colin. Great name you say? Sure, BUT for one thing - our last name begins with the same sound as Colin ends with. It's hard to ask since I obviously don't want to go posting my last name but we're talking Colin Lin---. The emphasis in Colin is on the Col part and the emphasis in our last name is on the Lin part.
Will my kid sound like he has a stuttering problem if we name him this ???

Re: First Name + Last Name having similar sounds?
If it makes you feel better...Dh and I are having a similar debate over a girls name. We both love it, but he thinks it sounds to repetivite with the first name and last name ending in similar sounds.
My advice...if your ok with it, your kid will beok with it. Repeating it over and over in your head doesnt help. It will start to sound awful.

Re: First Name + Last Name having similar sounds?
So many movie quotes today " Julia Goulia"
I think if you love the name, use it. If you dont rush through the name it doesnt sound like a stutter...

I don't think it's bad- I am imagining Colin Lister in my head, and it sounds nice. Better than a rhyming name.

Re: First Name + Last Name having similar sounds?
IMHO this is a personal choice. Our last name ends in and 'I' and I hate the idea of naming a child something that ends in an i or y because of the rhyming factor. If you like it, go for it - who cares what others think???

LOL, I had the same name in my head. I think it flows nicely and doesn't sound like a stutter at all.

Re: First Name + Last Name having similar sounds?
I agree that this is a personal choice. If you and DH don't care for it though, don't do it.
We had a similar issue. We loved the name Christopher, but our last name ends with a "K" sound, and the whole name sounded a little fussy or too cute to us. We told a couple people, and they both loved the way it sounded. We are not using Christopher though because we had too many doubts about it.

You think maybe maybe!!!
Thank you all. Preguntas, a few of your samples are pretty close, at least with respect to the emphasis and length, etc.
Thank you guys! Gosh, without you all I might have to actually do work today

Re: First Name + Last Name having similar sounds?
I think it definiteley works. If it was the other way around ex: Colin Brolin or Colin Conklin it would sound horrible!!!!
Hey, I think you found yourself a boy's name!!!

Re: First Name + Last Name having similar sounds?
We have a similar situation too....
We like Gavin for a boy but our last name ends in NAN...... So it would be Gavin blank-nan.....
But then again my DH's name is Kevin, so it never bothered us before......
We share so many similarities lately Eileen!
