Re: Cooktop on the island
MIL has it.
Her island faces the great room so she can cook and still talk to guests.
No hood, she has two separate Bosch ovens under the counter behind her.
Still has a triangular layout of stove, fridge. sink

I have it and mine faces the great room as well. So far I love it because I can entertain and talk to my guests.

Re: Cooktop on the island
We originally were going to do that but we decided to put the sink in the island instead.
I was just afraid of having a hot cooktop in the middle of an island if I had a lot of people over and someone by accident burnt themselves or even a child since it would be accessible from either side of the island. I feel better having it against the one wall.....the "unsafeness" is a little more limited.
But thats just my crazy thinking.

Re: Cooktop on the island
It was in the original plans for my kitchen but we had them move it so that the island is just an island. I have 2 little ones and didn't really want them sitting at the island with a potentially hot stove. I also liked the thought of using the island for serving, entertaining, etc.

I have this also, and I really love it. My island is more of a Peninsula, but if I am cooking, I can still talk to people sitting at the dining room table. I love it.

I should have never looked for this picture, I just spent like 20 minutes looking through pictures of Noah as a baby and thinking how much I missed baby Noah...on to the next baby soon I think! Yes, I love the kitchen too! 1 year on and it still hasn't been painted...

Re: Cooktop on the island
The only reason I don't like it is that when I entertain I put all the food on the island and if the stovetop was there it would take up so much room.
It looks cute but it is not practical for us. We entertain too much. I totally love the look of it though.
