Re: Cord Blood??

I planned on donating it the first time around, but I didn't qualify because I had a rubella vaccine within the year.

I'm going to try donating again this time.

Re: Cord Blood??

I was actually going to post the same topic-weird. We are banking the cord blood, not just for the good of the baby, but my husband as well (& me, too I guess)- he's adopted & our baby will be his only biological relative. We're banking w/ Viacord. The initial outlay of $$ is kind of high, but after that it's not bad. If we need to use it (God forbid), it'll be really good that we have it, if we spent the money needlessly... it's a risk we were willing to take.

Yup we plan on doing it. It is very expensive but may be well worth it one day!

Re: Cord Blood??

We are definately going to do it. The long-term benefits (God forbid) you need to use it, outway the costs. And it is not only beneficial to the baby, but also immediate relatives. We are still researching between CBR and Viacord.

Re: Cord Blood??

Yes, I think we have decided on Maze.
Same thing as Viacord and CBR, but way cheaper.

I amy also look into Cryocell, a pediatrician I visited used it for her kids.

We decided not to do it. We just don't have that extra $ right now to do it.

Re: Cord Blood??

We're not doing it. From different things I have read, it didn't really seem worth it to us, especially since there is a strong chance we are only having one child.

I thnk I read between $1300 and $1700 depending on who you do it with. Then there is an annual fee, which is around $125 a year (I think)

Re: Cord Blood??

I researched it last night! The price seems to be a little under $2000 for the initial process and then $125 every year after that. I was talking to my husband about it. I just feel like if I don't do it and god forbid something happens, I'll never forgive myself!

Is anyone going to put it as a registry??...I read you can do that too!

Blood Cord Banking is when you sign up with a facility to have them take the umbilical cord and blood from when you deliver your baby and freeze it. If your child or another member of the immediate family ever gets terminally ill, the hope is that the stem cells from the umbilical cord can be used to save their life.

blood chord banking is an ability for you to pay so that the baby's chord is saved. The chord has very beneficial cells, that may come in handy at certain sicknesses.

I appreciate the explanation. What a brilliant idea, I would love to do this. Even though the prices seem a bit high it sure is worth every penny if you ever came across a life death situation.
