A Little Freaked Out - UPDATE x2

Actually, now that I ran a google search (never a good thing) I am more than just a little freaked out, I'm a lot freaked out.

I had a growth sono on Monday and today was my follow up visit to discuss the results etc. Well, it seems the low amniotic fluid and fluid in the baby's bowels were little minor problems compared to the toxemia the MD thinks I might be developing. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My ankles and hands have been swollen for a few weeks, (and I've shown the MD) but today there was massive amounts of protein in my urine. The only thing that stopped him from giving me the actual diagnosis was that my blood pressure level was only 120/70 - but he wants me back in his office on Monday.

The research I've done is scaring the heck out of me because the only way to "cure" toxemia is to deliver the baby and I'm only at 32w5d today. Please send a few prayers this way that my condition is NOT toxemia and the protein they found today was just an anomaly.

****UPDATE*****

So, I went for a follow up sono due to the low amniotic fluid & fluid in baby's bowels. Well, I guess the ultrasound tech on Monday was a complete idiot b/c the amniotic fluid today measured double what it was on Monday!! Chat Icon Chat Icon The baby's kidneys and liver look "perfect".

I told both the sono tech & the MD that my OB was also concerned about toxemia based on yesterday's office visit, so they did some looking at the placenta. (apparantly toxemia causes changes). Well, the MD said while he sees subtle changes in the placenta, what he does see is normal, and he expects that this scare will only result in closer monitoring for the rest of the pregnancy.

According to today's measurements baby is weighing 4 lbs 5 oz, with measurements putting the due date around 12/16 (EDD on LMP = 12/9).

AND . . . . this is the best part . . . . I got a 3D picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Will update again Monday after I see my OB again! Thanks for keeping me sane ladies!!!

UPDATE 10/22

The official report from the repeat growth sono show that everything is A-OK! Chat Icon Chat Icon The report said although they weren't asked to do a biophysical profile, if they had been asked the score would be 8/8!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

As for the toxemia and urinalysis . . . after spending the weeekend as a couch potato per instructions, my ankles were normal Chat Icon this morning. The lab results showed only traces of protein, but did show white blood cells. Chat Icon We did a repeat today, so back to waiting for results.

I'm really sorry this is happening. I hope you do not have toxemia, but if you do, it sounds as if your doctor is on top of it.

Two women I work with both had it. They both wound up delivering early, though one only two weeks before her due date. Both had very healthy babies. I should also mention that they had these babies aroudn 20 years ago, so I'm sure treatment has improved.

Try not to worry too much!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: A Little Freaked Out

If I have learned one thing from being pregnant is to never, never research medical conditions on the internet! So much of the information is false or misleading. Especially if you find it on chatboards or random sites.

Try not to panic. If your doctor thought you should be really concerned right now, he would let you know. Try to relax this weekend and see what happens when you go back on monday!!!!

Try not to google.. honestly sometimes there is such a thing as too much information - without all the facts or knowledge to back it up.

It may help for you to call the dr. to talk to him about this, and maybe you can really get the right facts so at least you would know what to expect.

Re: A Little Freaked Out

Darlene, step away from Google!!!!!!!!

With that said, they will monitor you for a while. You're developing it at a normal time. My SIL developed it around week 27 and delivered her 2 babies at weeks 31 and 32 and they are wonderful 4 and 6 year olds today!!! So, you have time. With your blood pressure still down, it shouldn't be such a problem at this time.

I will be praying for you! I have been praying for you the entire time. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
