Re: Circumsicion Question

DH is Jewish and would like our baby to be snipped if it's a boy. Respect for his religion aside, I do question the need for the procedure.

my DH is jewish as well, so we will be having the baby circumcised for that reason. because i always knew we would do it, i never really looked into NOT doing it - although my parents are from italy, where men aren't routinely circumcised...

If the time comes and we have a boy we will not.
We feel is an unnecessary procedure. In general there is no medical reason to circumcise.
I actually just read that the circumcision rate in the US is fast approaching 50/50 so I don't feel that the whole how it looks thing will be an issue for my child, especially living in CO where a lot of people don't.
DH is actually circumcised and I left the decision up to him and his choice is not to if the time comes. I was relieved because it is not something I ever want my child to go through.

Do all hospitals ask? Or do Catholic hospitals just automatically do this?
I'm just curious.

They definitely have to. You could sue the pants off them if they did it without your consent

This is very true. We just watched the oprah special on Men with Dr. Oz and he said that there is no medical reason to do it. He also said the % of men with it done to men without it done has almost leveled out.

We chose not to circumcise our son b/c we feel it is an unnecessary procedure.

Re: Circumsicion Question

Sooooo, I was going to post this question myself, but now that it's already started, I'd love to chime in...

DH has always said he wouldn't want his DS to have a circumcision, and I was on the fence about it. I've read studies where it is safer (STD-wise) to have a circumcised penis, but that the man's sensitivity is significantly decreased when he is circumcised.

I don'twant my son to be upset when he looks at DH and realizes he doesn't look like him, but I don't want to circumcise him just so he will feel like he looks like other people.

I think it's a really tough call and I hope we make the right decision.

Re: Circumsicion Question

we did not have my baby circumsized...I did not see any reason in doing so.

1. Seemed like unnecessary pain.
2. Too many stories of botched jobs done.
3. I am a simpleton and like to leave well enough alone.
4. Globally, this isn't done. The rest of the world is surviving.
5. I did not want to take away any sexual sensation due to cosmetic reasons.
6. DH is uncut, never been a problem. At 30 years old, he has never been teased, turned down, or had anything medically wrong due to it.

Re: Circumsicion Question

I just had to make this decision for my son, and I HATED it. I did not want to do it to him after all he had been through. I did however, leave the decision up to my husband, who was insitant on it. I cried like a baby when I saw it afterwards. I just feel like there was no real reason. The oNE thing that made me feel better was a family next to us in NICu where none of the older males had been circed, and they said to do it 100%. One of them had to get the procedure done at 35 years old.

I still feel awful about it, and wish my little boy did not have to go through it. Chat Icon

I'm neither for or against it, its a totally personal choice. But I just wanted to clarify that Islam is the worlds second largest (and growing) religion and Muslims do circumcise their boys. They traditionall do it at "gulp" 7 years old, but older men converting to Islam to very often have circumcisions at later ages. Its due to cleanliness issues for their religion as they are meant to be clean before praying, ie no urine to be on the body.

Just thought I would pip in with that.

Re: Circumsicion Question

I have a question for those who say they will/won't do it because they want them to "look" like their dad or other people......

How many times does a baby/child/man actually SEE a flaccid penis in his lifetime?
Do we really think he will be scarred for life if theirs doesn't look like Daddy's or the guys in the locker room?
I know my boobs don't look like anyone else's, not that I get many opportunities to examine.....

It's not like they go swinging it around for the world to see.

Not trying to make frun or light of the situation, but this statement really confuses me......

I think she probably meant that in the rest of the worlld they don't do it unless its for religious reasons.

Also, my DH was raised Muslim and only in certain regions do they wait until the child is older. Most of the time its done at birth.

I agree. I don't think the looks thing is a very big deal. My DS won't match my DH and I'm not worried about it, its not a hard thing to explain.

If we have a son, we will do it. Oddly enough, we never had a huge discussion about it. We both just assumed we would.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter to me either if DS and DH look alike. It's not as if they'll compare each other, and I wouldn't think other kids would tease each other about this. I really can't see one boy admitting he looked at another's penis, though I could be wrong about this.
