I feel guilty... am I wrong?

DS is almost 3 weeks old and I let him sleep in bed with me every night. We started off in the pack and play for 1/2 the night but when he is with me, we both sleep through the night with 1 feeding/diaper change. I feel so well rested in the morning and the baby isnt crying all night but for some reason I feel guilty like I am spoiling him. Am I wrong? Thanks. Chat Icon

It is impossible to spoil him this early. As long as you are sleeping safely (in a way that he cannot get hurt inadvertently) then go for it.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

In the beginning, I think anything you can do to get the baby (and you) to sleep is ok!
Just be careful of a baby in the bed...and if you don't want the baby to get tooooo used to sleeping with you, you can always stop it when he's a few months old!

I agree. If you are both sleeping well and safe what's the harm for now.

These early weeks are gurella warfare, do whatever works....

And FWIW, we used to do it too, but now DS gets too excited by the dog to actually sleep in bedChat Icon

We co-slept for a while and it was no problem getting DD to sleep in her crib when we were ready. Do whatever you have to do to get the optimal amount of zzzzzzzzzzz's.

Re: I feel guilty... am I wrong?

Don't feel guilty, at this point you just have to do what you have to so you both get your rest. Chat Icon My DD was in our bed for almost 1 year, it was the greatest thing when she was small, because we all got our sleep and I got to have her near me when breastfeeding (after a while I didn't really even have to wake up to feed her!). At around a year we were lucky in that she just didn't want to be in the bed, I think we were waking her up, and she transitioned very easily to the crib with only 1 night of crying for like 20 min.

As long as you don't have blankets or pillows over her that could block her bleeding, you should be fine. I actually used a sleep positioner when she was really tiny b/c I was afraid of rolling onto her or her rolling away. I also slept with my arm across above her head so she couldn't scoot up under my pillow.

Good luck, and don't feel guilty!Chat Icon
