Please let me know what you normally call these

I am having a heated discussion about this and I am being told I am just totally wrong.

We have electric heat in our home. We have baseboard heating. My entire life we have called them "baseboards". Always dropped the heating. What do you call them if you are talking to someone about them.

Next, around the thing that goes on the wall to the floor. I have always called it moulding. Do you use the word baseboard or the word moulding when you talk about these?

Thanks!

The heating element I call baseboards. For the moulding that goes around the rest of the room...I call it exactly that. I think you're 100% right if I am understanding you correctly.

Baseboards. I occasionally say "radiator", but most of the time they are baseboards.

Moulding is the decorative piece of wood on the top and/or bottom of a wall, usually to hide the edges.

I think we are wrong. Tell the person that you're arguing with that they are a moron anyways.

ETA: It also says they can be used to talk about heating so everyone is right.

I call the heating element baseboard heater (or usually radiator).

To me, baseboards is the moulding that goes along the floor.

They really are! It is another messageboard and they keep saying YOU ARE WRONG. None of these people even have this kind of heating and the whole discussion started because they didn't understand why you would clean the top of them!! Yes, this board is a little dirty-that is how the whole making the bed thing started-lol!! (not that anyone who doesn't make their bed is dirty-it is just some other things they have said about how they keep their homes).

I'll say "Baseboard Heater" or "Baseboard Heating".

For moulding, we refer to it as baseboard.

Sounds like a bunch of losers that have their noses raised real high in the air if they are saying you're 100% wrong about something like this. Send them the wikipedia that says it can also be used in terms of heating. What forum is this?

Yeah you can change anything but it is typically true. Tell them they can sign up here and we can all show them we call them this in New York. And if they are against New York, then they are against God.

I have called base moulding baseboards on occasion, but I would never argue with you about it.

I call it moulding more often than not.

DIYnet has a reference to "baseboards" as heating elements: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/he_heating_cooling_systems/article/0,2037,DIY_13894_2274829,00.html

Another technical reference: http://www.bellgossett.com/homeowners/BG-Hydronics101.asp

Just do a "find on this page" search on the pages, and you'll find the spot where they refer to the heating element as just "baseboards". Granted, it isn't the primary definition, but it is definitely used in the HVAC industry.

No wonder they don't believe you. They don't have heat in their houses. This heating rod you are talking about is about 10 years away for them. Tell them you have indoor plumbing and watch a riot on the board.

Disclaimer: I did not intend to offend anyone here that is from the midwest.
