We were told by our lawyer to tip the tiltle person $100. It's customary and I don't think they actually get paid much. It's also supposed to ensure that your deed gets filed (or whatever is supposed to happen) in a timely manner. It's probably all BS but I didn't want to take a chance.
That sounds like a bribery tactic.. something you'd see in a developing country or something!

We didn't tip anyone. In fact, our agent gave us a closing gift and a couple hundred dollars.

Often, the attorney will suggest you tip your title person, usually around $100.
It's ridiculous in my opinion. As someone said, these are professional people doing their job.
Hmmm, maybe I should put a tip jar on my desk at work?

No tips..if you don't like the pay at your job, get another one.
After emptying out my bank account for the largest purchase of my life there is no money left to tip people that already get paid by their employer.
I'm an extremely generous person and I see no reason to tip.

They say the title person. But you know what, the second time around we didn't. Maybe that's rude but we didn't really care. Sometimes they are really nasty.
And, they don't do too shabby with regards to pay and their jobs are pretty cool. I used to work for a title company.

Title Closers DO get paid from the Title Company. It is so minimal though - it is laughable.
They also DO NOT handle the recording of your deed/mortgages/Sats., etc., that is for the title company to do.
Whether you "tip" or not is solely up to you and sometimes already determined by your attorney.

We didn't tip anyone. It was never even suggested to us that we should tip anyone.

Well, it was brought up by our attorney today at closing. She said It's customary to tip the title person usually $50 or $100. Those were her exact words. We ended up giving a check over to the title person anyway.....
I am just so happy we are now home owners!!

Nobody has to be tipped. This is posted an awful lot on this site and I have never seen anyone get a tip at any closing.....(NY or VA) ..... not once...ever.
