Well, I drive a vehicle bigger than any of the Hummers (H1, H2 or H3).  Only the H1 is of any use, but not around in these parts (Long Island.)
Even though I drive an Excursion, I see the H2 and H3 as a waste. They have no interior room/little cargo space and towing capacity is on the low end which basically renders them useless.
People crack me up when they pull up along side of me and yell at me for driving a "gas guzzler".  I often wonder if they pull up to every pickup on the road to yell at them too considering I'm basically driving an F-250.
As for a Hummer running you off the road, it's not the vehicle...it's the driver.

I have to laugh when people b*tch about the gas consumption of SUVS. Most cars out there aren't much better. Our 2003 Maxima only got a few more MPGs than our SUVs. It wasn't anything significant.

I owned one I drove it for about 2 years! I hated it more than anything! It sat in my driveway my husband was ready to kill me! We then sold it! I hate them!

I agree with this- my SUV gets about 22 mpg- which is more then my DH sports car- but no one b*itches about sports car
but the the orginal question- I hate hummers- a woman couldn't see my sisters SUV and backed up into it- she could have really hurt someone- all b/c she couldn't see out that tiny back window

I wonder if she was driving the H3. We test drove one and there were way too many blind spots. Might as well be driving in a box with a peep hole.

I am not sure- but the tire was on the back and that's what went thru the back of the explorer my sister has- she was in the back seat and the tire stopped an inch a way from her head
on the way to my brother RD of all things- and my sister had to drive back to maryland with plastic over the back of her car
no damage to the hummer of course!

ETA: I don't like them either. I don't see the point in them, and it does not seem like they are suitable for everyday roads.
SUV's and some sports cars do go through a lot of gas. I'll take my economical 4-cyl engine any day...even if it is a hyundai.

Yep! I was just watching a special on TV about that the other day. It was on, I believe, The History Channel. Ford and/or Chrysler were asked by the Gov't to make a vehicle that they could use in the War (WWII I think)... And they created the Jeep.
Really cool show.

The "new" hummers to me are totally ridiculous. Before we got married, DH & I were considering getting a retired military issue humvee (real hummer) DH at that point went into the mountains alot, and entered into off-roading competitions. Now he would not even think of it, even though we still drive trucks. Its just excessive.

Not to start drama, and not to say that ALL SUV drivers can do without them (because some of us use them for working purposes) but in reality, more gas is used in the transportation of goods in one week than all of the SUVs use in one year (I hope this figure is still accurate) Just to put things into perspective.

Not all Hummer models get good gas mileage. It can range from 8mpg for a military issue to I think 19 mpg for the H3. While not horrible it is not as efficient as some of the newer SUV/SAV technology.

The H2 and H3 (and I've heard they're working on a smaller H4) are just Chevys but with more plastic pieces glued on.
H2 = Chevy Tahoe
H3 = Chevy Colorado pickup
Future H4 for 2010

I am a guy and I think hummers are retarded. The h2's and h3's aren't even real offroad vehicles. I saw a few you tube videos of h2's getting messed up from off roading. I definately think they might be to compensate for something.

Yup it's the trendy thing to have now. I mean the H3 is on the cheaper end so almost anyone can say they own a hummer. It's the same principle as the guy that has to own a BMW. It is a 1989 with 200k miles, no a/c, bald tires and smokes but they can say they own a BMW.
