Re: Do you think this is odd?
I have heard of this done in th epast but not today.
I wouldnt do it but if its a cultural custom, as long as its ok with the family, I dont see any harm.

Re: Do you think this is odd?
Actually my Grandmother does that. I don't know why, its weird. She did it for her husband, and my brother. We NEVER want to see those pictures.

Re: Do you think this is odd?
It's cultural....I know in other countries they do this. I have heard that they also send the pictures to those that could not be there for the wake/funeral.

Re: Do you think this is odd?
My grandmother and her family apparently did this. They were from eastern Europe, so maybe it is acceptable in other cultures. I personally think it's creepy and would never. Just a thought- maybe it helps bring finality and closure for some people?

Re: Do you think this is odd?
I'm Puerto Rican and I've seen this done at a few funerals I've been to. I don't agree with it..and thought it was a Spanish thing.
It is very weird...

Re: Do you think this is odd?
I told my mom about this, she is Italian. She said they used to do this in Italy.
I still say it's creepy and morbid...

My DH's family is Puerto Rican and when his Grandma died, my FIL took pictures of the open casket and all of the flowers. He showed them to me & was proud of them! I couldn't attend the funeral (it was in PR and my MIL didn't even go), so this was their way of bringing the wake to us!
I wasn't really offended by it - different strokes for different folks. Whatever helps someone grieve or to get through it...

Re: Do you think this is odd?
I haven't seen it done but when I worked in a photo lab saw many people bring in film to be developed of people in coffins.
I agree that I would rather look at them vibrant & alive.

I've never heard of that or seen it except in the case of a president/national figure.

Re: Do you think this is odd?
A lot of European and certain Latino cultures do this...why? I have no idea...I know its a little different in Europe since they tend to bury the deceased within a couple of days of passing...there are no wakes and certain funeral home procedures (embalming etc)...the deceased is bathed, dressed and buried. So I guess they take pictures for the last time...
