I was 10.
Me too - it was July. Coincidentally, my mom got hers when she was 10 in the month of July as well.

I was 12 and it was on summer vacation. I saw AF on my undies and showed my grandma..she made me take them off, change and put a pad on, then she HAND WASHED my undies and hung them to dry. When my mom and dad came home she told them I was now a woman

I was on a trip to the Museum of Natural History, luckily my mom was one of the chaperones! The funny thing was that she had a pad in her pocketbook that day but someone else had their period that day and she gave it to them already, so we had to buy my first pad ever out of one of those vending machines.
oops forgot to add, I was 13.

That must of been hard on you. I developed pretty early also, and I hated it. I remember feeling so awkward.
It was horrible. I remember being 12 and having men in their 20s hitting on me. After a while, I got used to it and loved to make them feel like scumbags when I told them I was 12 or 13 and that my dad had a shotgun.

I just remember reading "Are You There G-d Its ME Margaret" and waiting for it everyday so I could be cool.
I think girls are developing faster nowadays because of environmental factors and diet - such as how animals are fed certain growth hormones.
The generations get taller and bigger. My father and his 3 sisters were first generation here and his sisters barely scraped 5 feet tall as did his parents. He was 5 ft 10. All 4 of the kids in my family are over 5 ft 5. We eat differently from our ancestors and live longer too.
(Sorry for the digression)

i was either 16 or 17. and i had no idea how late that was until i told my old gyn. she was surprised, but told me that everyone develops differently.

Me too...I think it was Sept or October...I was embarrased BUT atleast it happened on a Saturday just as a I woke up. We were going to a Mets game that day! I hated going back and forth to the bathroom

I was 13 and probably in the 7th grade. My mother slapped me in the face (may be a Jewish thing), gave me the Kotex book entitled "What Every Woman Should Know" and said for me to go to talk to my sister who wasn't that much of a help.
 I got the same book!

Same here. I used to get it SOOOOO badly those first few years. At one point, I'd actually wear 2 pads, one on top of the other, just to ensure I wouldn't leak!

I was just shy of 13.
I didn't tell anyone that I got it. I was so embarassed.
We didn't really talk about those things in my house. I snuck pads from my mom and from the health class supply cabinet for probably three months before she found out.
OMG! Same here! I was too mortified to tell my mom. She never talked about it with me. I knew what it was from friends and movies-so it wasn't like the scene from Carrie when she didn't know why she was bleeding and the girls started throwing pads at her.
Mom didn't find out until about 3 months later when she did laundry.

I was 12 and at a sleepover. Even though my mom had taught me all about it I still wasn't convinced when I first got it! Thankfully my 1st AF was very light so I kept using wads of toilet paper until my mom took me out 2 days later to buy pads.
Just wanted to add I had gotten my 2nd AF exactly 28 days later. I remember telling my mom after the 2nd one that I didn't want to get it anymore. Coincidentally I wound up skipping it the next 4mths and I was convinced I had wished it away.

One month after my 12th birthday. I was lucky to be at home.
I remember totally not wanting it and making my mother promise that she wouldn't tell my dad.
So she called everyone with a uterus in our family and then told all of our neighbors. That was much better.
