Really want to get a house...
Also..I guess we are trying to plan it so we start trying in the summer and have the baby in April and then (since I am a teacher) have maternity leave from April-August.
Didn't want to try this summer since we are only married a year and I wanted to get used to being married and living together.
I know the pressure will be on after my brother gets married next weekend. This will be the next big thing on my family's mind

We've spent a chunk of our marriage traveling pretty extensively, and we're not done yet.
I'll be honest though, we're slowing down with intent to TTC in 2008.

We've spoken about it and we are both not ready yet. We did not live together before we got married, so we are enjoying every minute of it now. I love picking up and just going. Not having a care in the world. We want to go on a few more vacations, and just enjoy married life right now. We probably won't start until the end of next year if that.

A few reasons...
1) We didn't live together before we were married, and for the past three years we have just been enjoying living together, going out with our friends whenever we want, etc.
2) I was a full-time student for the first two years of our marriage. I still haven't finished my dissertation, but at least I am out of school otherwise and working for real.
3) Money, and consequently, space. We need a bigger place to live and need to be able to afford that.
All that said, we are going to start house-hunting in the fall, and hope to start TTC sometime in the next 6 months-year. We were originally on a 5-year plan from when we got married, but I've started to want a baby sooner than later.

I'm just starting a new teaching position, and I don't want to have to take maternity leave during my first year!  Hopefully we'll be PG within the next 6 months or so.

a combo...DH has a job that involves 100% traveling for two years- he has about a year left- We want to enjoy traveling for pleasure a bit more...save some more money so that I can take off some time from my career and be a SAHM/work pt...

We finally moved out of NY which was one of our big things "to do" before TTC. Now that we have, my mother is more than insistant about becoming a grandmother. Part of it is the fact that I only have one ovary/tube (had surgery in '01- ) so we're not sure if we'll encounter problems yet. Dh and I agreed to take one more big trip before trying.. So we'll see what happens in the spring;)

I have been married a year, and I have baby fever. So, it is hard holding off one more year, but I know its the right thing to do. I really wanted to have kids young, and I already think I am starting too late.
Reasons for not TTC
1. We would like to buy a house, and put more money away in the bank.
2. Although we haved traveled a lot already, we really want to go to Europe. We have a cruise booked for next year, and we are looking forward to it.
3. More time together! We are only married one year.
I have to admit that if I did get pregnant this year, I would be fine with it. I think DH feels the same way.

I voted other because its a mix of things.
We definitely want to have a house first so that also includes the 'money' reason. All of our extra money goes into savings and paying off debt.
Also, I just don't think we are ready for a baby yet. We are newly married and I want to spend some time just for us since we have never lived together before. We enjoy being able to just get up and go out when we feel like it.
I have never lived on my own before I got married and I'm enjoying the freedom of going out with out someone asking "Where are you going"
And lastly - I would like to go on two more trips before having a baby. One for our anniversary and a cruise with DHs family that is being planned for 2009.
We still have a few years before considering TTC.

For all the ttc'ers and not trying to ttc'ers..
Don't listen to any "advice" from others or criticisms as to why you are waiting.
I think it's very very important to have lived together long enough to know the other person in and out...it takes a strong marriage to have a strong family!
We were ready to TTC right after our wedding, but we also knew one another for quite some time and had lived together for a bit...a baby is something we wanted very badly.
A baby is wonderful, and I don't regret a second....but a baby does change a lot and you have to be mentally prepared. Travel if you have the money ( we didn't have the money before, so that wasn't a reason to wait, lol!)...see a lot, enjoy one another and you'll know when the time is right!

I voted for other. We have been married 9 months and I would like some more time for just DH and myself before we start TTC. Also, we want to enjoy our house and do a few things before we start having children.

I totally agree with the April thing. As a teacher, I have been advised by many friends who have had babies that the spring is the best time!

I answered other. I need to get a job with health benefits. I finished my master's last year and still no teaching job. I have been a sub and a bartender, neither one provides benefits 
I desperately want to TTC.

We wanted to enjoy being married for a while and to be financially secure. We have a house, and are pretty secure now.
The only problem is my best friend is getting married in Chicago next June and I don't want to miss her wedding, I'm a bridesmaid, so that threw off our timing. So really that's what is stopping us now.

I answered "don't want/still deciding". We are pretty sure we won't try for kids and I'm 40 next birthday, so deciding time is running out.
We spoke about it again last week and the major concern is our schedules. There is no way I could or would want to be a SAHM and I have very long days (I'm out of the house from 5:30 am to 7 pm twice a week and 7 to 7 the other three days and DH leaves at 5:30, getting home at 3:30), so I feel if we did have a child we would be paying someone else to raise it and would miss out on the important milestones.
We have a house and stability, so that's not a problem. If my DH would agree to being a SAHD, I might change my mind

I selected $$, but it's a combination of that, house responsibilities and wanting to enjoy married life together without any additional responsibilities.
We did buy a puppy to dip our feet into the prospect of starting a family, but this has put a stop to any of that thinking for a while.

I could have written this myself! Except for the cruise, we don't have that booked yet. But DH has already been to Europe and would love to go again. I have never been. There are so many things I want to experience before I have kids.

We have to wait until I receive tenure. Which hopefully will be this year, but officially it will not be granted until next September.
That was our reason for waiting too but I "should" be tenured this June so we started TTC this past month. We were also waiting on getting the house which we just bought 4 months ago.

We're not having any. When people ask I flat out tell them DH got 'fixed' so they stop saying "Oh, you'll change your mind..." DH is 43, I'm 34. Trust me, we've thought it out
I LOVE that you tell them that.
I guess that shuts them up.
I can not STAND the rude nosey people who think my decision to have or not have kids is ANY of their business.

waiting to receive tenure... one more school year. also, we would like to be just be married for a year and enjoy our time together before baby. but if it happens before then, fine.... but otherwise, we won't actively try to TTC for another year, year and a half. we both want lots of kids!
