Why the flock...
are we still in Iraq. I read Barb's post and my heart swelled with a mix of anger and bitterness...why are we there...

From MSNBC: "The Bush administration has tried to minimize the importance of the progress report due in September, trying to make clear it is not the final judgment. Beyond that, the administration is saying U.S. forces will play a role in Iraq through the end of Bush’s presidency, in January 2009."
Fudgeing hate President Bush!
Me too! He just doesn't care. He just figures he will maintain status quo and then let the next president deal with it.
Great idea. Especially since it is KILLING people!

Me too. Especially since Bush stole the election from Gore in the first place.

trust me, it is already worse than Vietnam, you could not imagine what we see, it's horrible
ETA- I truly thinkall republican cabinet members who support this war should send THEIR children over to serve. It truly should be a qualification for presidents, that is they support a warandhave children that are oldenough to serve, well then, they should sever, it may give them a different perspectiveon war if they know their kid abroad being shot at and being blown up by IEDs

I can agree with this statement.......someone should make our president stand next to the mother of a marine who INSISTED that I unwrap her sons face in the casket so she could see what those "bastards" did to her son
Stand there & try to console her in some way & he may think differently.

yes, the death toll was worse, but the TBI, amputations, and the PTSD as well as infractions from the "boom blasts" is FAR worse, I work for a military hospital this is how I know,I work 1st hand with the returning troops aswell as Vietnam vets, the Vietnam guys are in bad shape, but the OIF guys are in much worse shape and will have longer lasting effects from this war

I agree we should have never been there in the first place and should definately be out. However, with regard to the numbers of deaths, I think the numbers are a bit deceiving because with medical advances we are able to keep soldiers alive, who would have surely perished 30 plus years ago.

Very true point - however, Iraq has been going on for four years, with virtually no clear end in sight. Vietnam did not get bad until 67-68 and that was 8-9 years in. It also lasted for about 15-16 years, depending how you look at it. My fil is a Vietnam Veteran and he has compared the diaster in Iraq to the disaster that was Vietnam, from the beginning. Iraq definitely has the ability to match up with Vietnam, IMO.
I cannot stand this war and do not know why we went there in the first place

I wasn't talking about the numbers of deaths per se, I was talking about how we decided to start a war for completely bogus reasons and now people keep getting killed for no reason.
Also, Vietnam was WAY longer than this war has been, hopefully we will never get to that point
I am not saying that Saddam Hussian was a good person or that his reign was a good one, but the pretense in which this country got into this war was FALSE. Every single person in this country was lied to by their government and that is SICK.
