Re: Are you a "birthday" person?

If others forget it doesnt bother me. But I like celebrating birthdays. In the office I get in early and decorate the person's desk and really make it a special day for them. One person I gift wrapped their entire desk. Another person I hung a happy birthday banner across their desk.

I love birthdays...heck I love any reason for a party Chat Icon

I have posted about the topic of birthdays before. I am not a person who sees birthdays as national holidays while some of my friends have serious emotional breakdowns when people forget.

IMO, the only people who should/need to remember my birthday are:
1) The woman who gave me life and
2) The man I share my bed with.

Other than that, it is nice when other people remember, but I do not fall apart when they don't. I have three siblings and don't get mad if they forget. They don't get mad when I forget either. Perhaps it is just a family thing.

SO good to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. I always feel awkward on my birthday because I don't think it's a big deal and it makes me uncomfortable when others try to make it a big deal. Infact, today is my friend's birthday and he was throwing an all out hissy fit when I called his wife to see if she had anything planned because he wasn't happy with the hoopla that she planned. He didn't think it was a big enough ordeal that she invited us all over for cake then out to a movie, he wanted something moreChat Icon I told her I'd be bringing over a wrapped box of Pampers for the big babyChat Icon

Same here. I don't celebrate my birthday in any way, shape or form. I, absolutely, loathe it. I don't like being the center of attention in any way. It took me years to get this point across.
To me, it's just another day.

Re: Are you a "birthday" person?

I dunno, I guess I never felt the need to have a fuss made about me. It simply is not that important to me.

I could see it as a young person who has milestones to meet like double digits, teenage years, sweet 16, 18, and 21, but past that I really didn't care.

ETA:
Don't get me wrong, I love presents, but I would rather get them as surprises then an expectation from someone. To me, that is thoughtful.

Re: Are you a "birthday" person?

Lately I've been more sensitive about my own birthday because it's year 2 of celebrating it without my twin.

I never got upset if people didn't remember my birthday but treated my birthday as an excuse to party & have fun. If people can join in, then great; if not, that's fine too.

I used to be a huge birthday person for other people but that has fallen to the wayside. I do think if I was more organized, I would still be celebrating them as I did before.

Re: Are you a "birthday" person?

I love birthdays - mine or anyone else's. I take it personally if someone forgets mine, only because I try to send everyone a card for their birthday or recognize it in some way. I know I shouldn't expect the same back, but I do! Can't help it.
But my family has always made a big deal abotu birthdays - and all of my siblings and my parents call me to wish me a happy birthday.
It also helps that my birthday is on a holiday, so I can make a big deal about it because I never have to work Chat Icon . Always a nice treat!

I am the same was as you are.

For a while my birthday was a very difficult time for me. My 21st birthday was the last day I ever spoke to my dad. He had a stroke the next day and passed away 2 days later. Lets just say I barely got out of bed on my 22nd birthday.

Then on my 24th birthday, we were sitting shivah because my grandfather passed away 3 days before my birthday.

I would have big bashes on my birthday just to celebrate it and to not be sad.

Well my dad has been gone 10 years and I have pretty much gotten over the need to have a big bash, but I do like to get together with a few friends. But I don't expect anyone to remember on their own.

Re: Are you a "birthday" person?

I used to be more sensitive about my brithday-- I just wanted people to remember, I did not need people to react like it was a holiday...

Now, I could give less a sh!t.

Re: Are you a "birthday" person?

I'm with you.

My favorite kind of birthday is dinner with DH. That's it. Maybe have some sweets and do things during the day that I enjoy.

I used to get upset when a sister forgot. But it doesn't bug me anymore. And I'm old.

Re: Are you a "birthday" person?

I don't make a big deal about my birthday. I have friends that go out still at least 3 nights that week like it's a weeklong celebration. I am lucky I even remember how old I am these days. HAHAHAH and I am only 25.....wait I mean 26.
