Not sure if this was the proper way but we pushed on all of them and then DH started using them as punching bags!   We picked the Baby Beautyrest Mattress by Simmons.

Baby Bargians book, and the guy at Behrs kinda recommended the same one. Sorry, but I don't remember which one we ended up picking!

We bought our furniture at Bellini's and they only make one mattress for all the cribs so we didnt have a choice.

We got our crib from Bellini and we decided to get the better of their matresses because it will last longer.

I bought what they were selling at Behr's, somewhat blindly.  The guy had a good schpiel and I figured that I heard good things about their mattress. My parents were buying and wanted it done that day. I hope it's a decent mattress.

Same here about Behr's. We got a demo and being that it was so lightweight, it sounded wonderful for changing the sheets, etc.

The Baby Bargains book recommended foam so that is what I got.
I got the Visco Classic II from BBB. It has an extra firm side for babies and a softer side for when they are older. It was $219.99 and you can use the 20% off coupon on it.
