Women Drivers

I am a good driver and have been told so by many passengers. However, I know I am not as good as my DH.

Whenever someone does something stupid and it happens to be a woman, I say "figures, a womanChat Icon "

Do you think, from your experience that the stigma of women being bad drivers is true?

Re: Women Drivers

I completely disagree, I think women are much better drivers. Including myself.

eta...my husband can barely get his car around a corner and talk at the same time. Women can multitask...therefore better drivers. They can think and drive at the same time, unlike men.

Re: Women Drivers

I'm in the same boat as you, and I hate to say this bc I am a woman, but YES, it's true! Not to say that there aren't any crazy male drivers, but in my experience, women are far worse.

My DH drives down Northern Blvd like its the Daytona 500. He always wonders why he gets speeding tickets, too. Chat Icon

I have a lead foot but I don't drive like a maniac. Chat Icon

Re: Women Drivers

I don't - DH is worse than I am. I am more cautious and he speeds and weaves in and out of cars!

He races - so I guess that's where it comes from. Sometimes when we are on the LIE I have to remind in that it's NOT a race track. Chat Icon

Same here...myself included.

DH has actually been scaring me a little with his driving lately. Since we moved to NC, he doesn't seem to notice that people don't DRIVE 20 mph above the speed limit.

Overall, I think women are MUCH better drivers...as long as we're not driving when we're emotional.

I think insurance rates are lower for women too. I know they are especially lower for women under 25 when compared to rates for men under 25.

Sometimes women are TOO cautious, which is a problem as well.

Most women I know are terrible drivers. Because the are too nervous.

Re: Women Drivers

I consider myself a good driver, but my dh can handle situations better. We have managed to avoid quite a few accidents thanks to having him behind the wheel - I do not think the outcome would have been the same if I had been driving

I do not think it is fair to say that all women are poor drivers though

Re: Women Drivers

I say that all the time as a joke. Chat Icon

I see a lot of speeders & weavers that are men. And a lot of distracted women, on the phone or not. It all depends on the person of course, but maybe men do tend to be more speed demons and risk takers?

I do believe that most of the population could be better drivers than they are. Me included. Whether it be by retesting themselves on the driver's test, taking defensive driving, minimizing distractions, or just respecting other people...

I wish there were mandatory driver's tests.

Re: Women Drivers

ummm, if we're using DH and myself in this scenario...then he is by far a better driver than i am!!!! i'm a speed demon and, as he likes to say, "have trouble in reverse". i've had 2 fender benders backing up in parking lots.

i do the same thing when i see a bad driver thats a woman...i say to myself "figures, its a woman driving"...only because I am such a bad driver myself!Chat Icon

Re: Women Drivers

Sometimes I think that; its somewhat a 50/50........but I will tell you what I do find.

I find a lot more women drivers driving while talking on their cell phone and that pi$$es me off........b/c I can usually tell b/c they are driving carelessly. And then I will pull up, look over, see them talking and say to myself "it figures".
