Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

If so, please post examples of the assistance.

is it on site care? if so, how does it work and if outside what's percent do you get off?
At my agency which is non profit. We are trying to come up with ideas and present them to the CEO and HR Dept. about having day care on site or discounts outside. Something to retain valuable employees and as incentive for new ones.

They fired me at 38 weeks, does that count as child care assistance?

I don't know how common this is, but maybe some people are lucky.

I'm not pregnant either. However, will be planning soon and I would love for this plan to take action. They are just brainstorming the idea. I really hope it works. I think every company should offer this benefit to their employees. There would more loyal, happy and productive employees.

Gotcha now that you explain what you're trying to do. I used to work at a place that allowed all employees free daycare. But that was in 1990. Good for you in trying to do what you're doing! Chat Icon

Thank you. Yes, I think it can benefit a lot of people. Plus, in our agency are mostly women.

We have a FSA account for dependent day care. The company matches up to $2500 a year.

Re: Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

My company will allow you to save on taxes.

You can open a Flexible Spending Account. Basically, you decide how much of each paycheck goes into your accout and they put the money in pre-tax. After you pay for your day care, you submit the receipts and they give you back your own money from the Account... so the money you get back was never taxed.

I suppose the more you spend each year on child care, the more you can save on the taxes. You just have to consider that you have to pay for day care AND have the money come out into the Flexible Spending Account until they reimburse you.

We have an FSA as well but we do get discounts at certain child care places such as Tutor Time and Gymboree. They run about 5-15% depending on the deal we were able to get with the center. I work for a major international corporation so that is one of the reasons we are able to provide this.

Re: Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

my company is okay....not great. but does have some benefits.

We have on campus child care available. It is available on a sliding fee scale. The less you make the less you pay. However, I do not think this scale is very reasonable. For example I do not make a ton of money as an Admin. Asst. and my hubby does not make muchmore than me. However combined we have to pay the same amount as the doctors here making sooooooo much more. I actually have a coworker that has been engaged forever, but will not marry, because then she will no longer be able to afford the day care, sad.

IMO, if we work here, there should be a decent discount. It should not cost more than Off Campus day cares. Even a 20% discount would make a significant difference for teh average person to be able to continue working, and afford day care for their children.

PS, they do offer 10% off for second kid..whoo peee.LOL!

Re: Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

We have FSA, but no discounts, that's it.

I suppose I'm lucky to have that, but considering I work for a very large nonprofit, and a large part of our mission involves serving children, plus a very large part of the workforce is women, you would think they would have a bit more. Most likely, I will leave not too long after the baby is born (after finding a new job). My commute is too long, and I just can't see paying for daycare in the city. Too expensive!

Daycare discounts are great. Daycare on site is wonderful too, though I can understand why companies may not provide that for cost/insurance/space reasons.

Your company is doing a great thing to try and retain employees this way.

Re: Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

We have an on-site emergency/back up day care. Each employee is entitled to use it 20 days per year. Also, after returning from childcare leave, the employee can use the day care full time for 3 months.

Re: Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

I also work for a not for profit. Two years ago we added flexible spending accounts but it had NOTHING to do with child care costs.

I suppose what we have in place unofficially is the ability to bring a child to work on school snow days or school vacations when you can't otherwise make child care arrangements - but it is an unofficial policy.

Re: Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

We have flex spending for daycare costs but that doesn't work if you have a family member watching your child. The other form of childcare is a sick day Chat Icon

Re: Does your employer offer some form of child care assistance?

My company does not, but DH's company will reimburse us up to $2,000 (I think) if we use a licensed day care facility. I have to look into the details to be sure.
